What do nodes do? Do they connect to the internet and let you transmit to people across the country?

Never heard of meshtastic, but that sounds fantastic. I ordered two, even though we dont have a huge amount of nodes around us.

I haven't pulled the trigger but I'm very tempted to buy one, learn it, then buy one for all of my friends a few at a time.
