ps: I don't recommend anybody do this, it was a pretty silly idea. But I managed it, with 2 months of work and 1 month of shepherding them through the App Review process.
Was the goal Quantity or Quality? As a systems engineer I could design 20 systems that have been in various stages of development in 1 day, but those systems would not stand the test of time....

The goal was to ship the unshipped, as mentioned in my first OP that you're replying to, and in the blog post where I say: "I had a bunch of apps that I’d built for myself over the years, and...
The goal was to ship the unshipped, as mentioned in my first OP that you're replying to, and in the blog post where I say: "I had a bunch of apps that I’d built for myself over the years, and friends kept encouraging me to release them". The high quality in my work is inherent, and the quantity was just a product of time and I was shocked by the number. So it's both.
I don't know what you're getting at in the rest of your message, but suffice to say that I am not you and you are not me so your theoretical scenario does not apply.
This seems to me like unnecessarily/ungenerously imposing a false dichotomy on top of the OP's effort. And while not sure if intentional (tone is hard online), it reads to me like you're implying...

Love this! Don't have a Mac (yet) but I can genuinely see myself using some of these. Huge respect to shipping so many apps to the App Store successfully but also to reducing the final application...

Thank you. I like to set myself additional constraints and size is such a fun one. I had to optimise at the byte level to get the screensaver to come in at just under 1.44 MB (it's 99.X% of that)....

Dude, this is impressive. Always been a dream to just pump out a few dozen utilities in quick succession - but twenty at once? Incredible. I don't use the apple ecosystem, but I know this must...

The apps themselves were written over many years, but there was still a lot of work to get them from "good enough for me" to "good enough for everybody".
Although I am out of the macOS ecosystem now I definitely would have enjoyed some of these! Maybe I will give Mojibaker a shot since I am on iOS. Sorry to hear you were laid off and I hope these...

Really appreciate the bloat-free "fits on a floppy" approach too. I love highly optimized and efficient things and specialized "does one thing exceedingly well" kinds of tools.
Thank you so much. Glad it resonates! Doing things this small on macOS and iOS requires a deep understanding of what the system and SDKs offer. Many years of hard work paying off.

I used to watch the flying toasters and bad dog and guy mowing the lawn for hours on end. I wish I could make screensavers for my Mac, but I've never been able to find documentation for how to do it.

You can do it! There's an Xcode template that will get you a blank screen saver. The hardest part is iteration and testing. Back in 2009 when I made my first screensaver I put together a test harness to be able to run the animation in a regular windowed app for easier development. Then when I'm happy I build the saver target once. I modernised this approach for the Floppy screensaver.
Thanks! I’ll have to try installing Xcode again. Funnily enough, the whole reason I got back into Mac was to develop for Mac and iOS, but the first thing I wanted to try was a screensaver and I...
Thanks! I’ll have to try installing Xcode again. Funnily enough, the whole reason I got back into Mac was to develop for Mac and iOS, but the first thing I wanted to try was a screensaver and I failed at it so hard I gave up entirely. Still loved my Mac and iPhone, though, and I’m still using newer versions of them eight years later.
It's not native for Apple silicon, and Intel will be phased out in the next version of macOS. So, ImageOptim's days of usefulness are numbered. Plus, ImageOptim is not a 100% native app, so...

I love the unified color palette and the simple design. I don't have a personal use for most of these, but I love how specialized they are — it's clear you really care. I did buy Wavelet, so thanks!

Congrats! It's no small feat!
Thank you. I need a holiday :)

Errr what's wrong with ImageOptim?
It's not native for Apple silicon, and Intel will be phased out in the next version of macOS. So, ImageOptim's days of usefulness are numbered. Plus, ImageOptim is not a 100% native app, so performance is better in my app.

Omg! This is making me want to make my own screensaver too. Thanks for sharing. I downloaded the floppy saver, and I'm trying out the Stapler app :D
