And this fork also strikes me as a bit unethical IMO, since at the bottom of their page they even copied the statement "Our good friend Mike Rogers has helped us to release an awesome Google Chrome Extension for JustDeleteMe" (in reference to justdeleteme.xyz) but simply replaced the last part with "for JustDelete․me" (which is a domain that redirects to BackgroundChecks․org) ... which is completely untrue. If you go to Mike Rogers chrome extension he clearly references making the extension for the original justdeleteme.xyz project not this BackgroundChecks․org/JustDelete․me one.

You're right that this isn't the maintained version, but you got the rest backwards - the originally linked site (backgroundchecks.org) seems to be using the original code, which was abandoned, and justdeleteme.xyz is the fork that's continued to be maintained (and the chrome extension switched to the fork). See this issue (the first one on the new repo): https://github.com/jdm-contrib/jdm/issues/4

The bottom of the README also says:

This is a detached fork of the original repo that intends to keep the project alive, as the original one was abandoned.

Edit: I updated the topic link to justdeletme.xyz now, since I think that's better regardless.

Ah gotcha... though I am also curious now if backgroundchecks․org was always involved or if they essentially hijacked the project by buying the justdelete․me domain when the original project owner's control over it expired.

edit: According to waybackmachine... it appears that backgroundchecks․org only started redirecting justdelete․me to their own site on Sep 15th 2016:
        https://web.archive.org/web/20160915080628/http://backgroundchecks.org:80/justdeleteme

Since before that it was just justdelete․me with no redirect or backgroundchecks․org banner at the top:
        https://web.archive.org/web/20160911225540/http://justdelete.me:80/

edit2: And according to the whois history the domain could have switched hands some time after Aug 2016:

Thanks cool site. I'm in the process of deleting a lot of my old profiles and this gives some overview. Now the next step is to move all my google shit to better/more secure services which seem like a daunting task. Fuck pinterest btw.
