I was talking to someone at work and we have been extremely pleased with firefox recently. They commented "I'm glad it seems in the last year everyone at mozilla seems to have woken up again and actually cares about developing firefox"

I'm not sure if l can trust password managers, especially with all the "forget the master password and you're screwed" and possible data breaches on owned devices. Not sure if the latter even is a risk at all but still. I'd personally use a physical password notebook, one that nobody online can ever find but with major disadvantages that irl people can find it and that it can be lost more easily.
What's the better option here?
Use an offline open-source password manager like KeePass.

As I understand chromium's proposed changes to adblocking extensions, it's going to limit the potential of the better ones (ublock) in favour of Chrome's upcoming built-in Adblock, which'd likely allow Google ads through. Correct me if I'm wrong with any of this, but wouldn't that be a reason to move /to/ Firefox?
Ah, gotchya. I haven't been a chrome user for a while so I didn't end up reading too much on it. Here's hoping they don't go through with them/change them enough that they're not an issue

I want gfycat, gifv, youtube, etc, to autoplay, but I never asked news websites to start playing a 50MB video with sound just because I opened their website.

AFAIU Mozilla has a problem with non technical depts. There are some fools somewhere that come up with all the scandals and create troubles.
You've probably heard this before, but it would be beneficial for you to use a password manager if you're forgetting passwords.

Hmm. I'm certainly no expert but I think a password manager is safer. Choose one that you can trust and/or is open source, like Bitwarden.

Firefox has an import tool to move all of your chrome data and firefox also has the same syncing features

This is a must-have. Auto-play is one of the worst site features.
Hallelujah!
Finally! It seems like I'd been reading about this for months.
