With that said it also seems like this may be part of the Trump administration flexing economically on the Chinese.
Not necessarily. This follows bans by Australia and New Zealand on Huawei being involved in their forthcoming 5G networks, due to spying concerns. That's two of the Five Eyes. A third "Eye" - the United Kingdom - has limited Huawei's involvement in its 5G roll-out. A fourth "Eye" - Canada - is considering a similar ban. For once, America isn't out on its own.

Of course, they have been banned from using some things—Google Play services, for example, but they can still use Android as much as they'd like.
I've heard that but they also can't use the branding too. They already can't use ARM, AMD and Intel so using Android (or even Windows) is already much much harder.

That's an interesting point of view. They are a member so it's not so far-fetched and considering it would be much easier to build using Linux than anything else really, it could make a ton of sense.

ARM apparently is worried about certain of their offices which are in the US or something : https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/22/18635326/huawei-arm-chip-designs-business-suspension
I wouldn't be surprised if they just replicated the entire tech scene while making it better, faster and cheaper. The resources in china are pretty huge.

That's... very unlikely. As much as I wish that were true, it's very probable they'll just build something proprietary and unusable on anything but their own stuff which would be a net negative...

Why is all this happening? OOTL.
US Barred Huawei over spying concerns and as such US companies can't interact with them.

I agree: it seems to me the Obama Admin never took this kind of tack with foreign tech companies even if they were Chinese red.
it's because huawei is prosperous.
Man.. can they do anything still? Like.. unless they do everything from scratch, I don't know what they can do.

If chineese companies can't use ARM or x86 this might mean the rise of RISC V

Why can't they use ARM? I thought Arm Holdings was a British company.

A lot of the technology in ARM originated in the US.
