Edited the title slightly to be more accurate and a bit less alarming.

Of that I have no doubt. Why write an accurate headline that only attracts mild attention when you can simply omit one key word and get a whole lot more instead? :(

It is sad, but also reflective of the unfortunate reality that ad revenue based news sites needs clicks and impressions in order to survive. Rock solid journalistic integrity would be nice to see everywhere, but adherence to that often does the exact opposite of attracting large scale attention. Which is why tiny little lies by omission in headlines like this must be incredibly tempting for editorial teams; Individually they are not enough to really undermine their organization's reputation, and using that tactic greatly increase the odds they won't lose their jobs. It's a tough spot to be in.

It's undeniably a lie by omission, IMO. Using "on Android devices" implies all of them, which is completely different than "on several Android devices" which is far more accurate... but also less...

Sorry if this sounds rather stupid, but how were you able to change the title? I'm relatively new to tildes (really liking it so far though), and as far as I can tell you're not the one who posted...

That's a really interesting idea, thanks for clearing that up! Also, very good point you made in the discussion regarding not being all too strict about titles. Another bonus that comes to my mind...

Another bonus that comes to my mind is that this will prevent the low-effort posts in which the author (voluntarily or not) made a mistake in the title leading to "hilarious" misunderstandings you see all over reddit.

I have to say, I'm starting to enjoy tildes more and more. Only have been checking it out for a few days now, but the community seems really great so far. Excited to see where this project goes :)

And yeah, there are just so many common problems that editing titles helps solve, that I think it's a good idea overall even though it could potentially be abused. However, since all the changes are logged in the Topic Log (in the sidebar to the right), if anyone does actually abuse it they can be identified and suitably punished, e.g. by having their privileges revoked.

p.s. Since you're new to Tildes I would definitely recommend checking out some of the Official Docs at some point if you have the time/inclination, the Overall Goals especially.

Thanks for the links, I'm definitely gonna have a look at those!

Yeah things will likely continue changing slowly over time as the site scales up and new problems arise that need to be addressed. The end goal is currently to develop a trust/reputation system that can handle the large scale/large volume issues typically seen on other aggregators, however that system is mostly theorycrafted at this point so things will have to be monitored closely and adjusted as it's being developed and implemented.

Also, the url suggest 'supply chain attack' was in the original title. Reading the current headline I assumed Google built the backdoor themselves.
