From what I can gather the Google Glass was clunky, useless, and too advanced for its time, and that would still be true even today. The kind of functionality that could truly take advantage of its form factor is still in its infancy. But I'm confident the basic concept will prove successful sometime in the future. Virtual and alternate reality are just too awesome to not be part of some transhumanistic dream. This might take quite a few decades, and possibly even more, but I don't see why it shouldn't happen.
And I wonder if there would be much of a negative reaction nowadays when people are less likely to care about their privacy and the very notion of personal space was redefined by social medial (I'm not saying that's a good thing, but it might make people less likely to feel threatened by the device).
I'd probably have a hard time using it since I already wear prescribed glasses, though.

I'd guess that they'll eventually get into the glasses market, but not before Google, Snap, and some other companies have taken a few more shots at it.

Rumors keep popping up that Apple intends to launch some kind of glasses product in 2021 or 2022.
I think Apple is more likely to make that into something actually useful that looks really good. People don't wanna walk around looking like dorks.
