I feel like this is a vicious cycle in some cases though. E.g., Discord started as a replacement for a niche (Teamspeak). Now it is more or less a Reddit competitor. As soon as Discord’s investors start demanding a return, I’m sure they’ll find a way to ruin it and drive all the Discord communities elsewhere.
