    I also had an idea to make something similar to this, being especially worried about old.reddit going away in the near future. (Just look at how much of an afterthought the new features like image albums and polls are)

    I have a few worries about the specific implementation though, especially about them using Reddit's official API. I totally expect Reddit to say "no we're blocking you from our APIs" after a couple years or so, especially if Reddit decides to kill old.reddit (After which, I expect a complete revamp of their API usage policies, probably disallowing 3rd party mobile apps too, as I'm sure a majority use the New Reddit/Official App combo and the rest (a major part of them, at least) will just switch over)

    Still, I hope they make it work, maybe bake in some of RES's goodies in there as well, and it might end up pretty well.

      The admins have said old reddit wouldn't be going away, but it also won't receive new reddit features. So this is in line with that policy. I wouldn't take it as evidence of old reddit going away...
