I don't know how I feel about this for a few reasons. Firstly, I don't like the idea that the largest players in logistics and information technology are so closely involved with writing these regulations. I know it's essential to comprehensive regulation for those being regulated to be involved, but I frankly don't trust any of these corporations. This smells of regulatory capture... fool me once... fool me twice... fool me how many times now?

Secondly, I don't believe for a single second that companies that literally make billions of dollars collecting and monetizing personal information won't place any and all possible data collection measures on these drones. Google got in trouble for war driving with their Street View vehicles without telling people, and then turning around and using that information in their location service which is a huge element of their advertising business. Amazon is already trying to create a surveillance panopticon with their Amazon Sidewalk project. Once again, color me skeptical...

Finally, and most pragmatically, can you imagine the noise? I see tons of Amazon deliveries in my neighborhood and the noise if all of these were dropped by drone would be incredibly annoying.

In closing, I'm not against progress, but I am against these corporations progressing. Their motives and lack of moral and ethical bounds proves their unworthiness of our patronage or success and a broken system is all that holds them in place.

I mean if you could fly a drone around the city with weapons and tracking capabilities why wouldn’t you? Especially if it’s in the name of public safety.
