    Why is Instagram is never really mentioned in these kind of articles? Most people know facebook is fucking awful but I don't think a lot of people realize that Instagram is exactly the same. They seem to go more under the radar maybe because of the more simplistic and innocent looking UI.

      It's like how McDonalds is the only big fast food chain when people are trotting out examples, it's the ubiquitous example. Carl's Jr. wasn't the one to get sued with its bigger worse-for-you burgers, it was McDonalds with its larger sodas and fries despite all the chains doing the same thing.

      I don't think that's quite true. Instagram has the advantage of being really easy to disengage from, at least in my opinion; because sharing text is difficult and unwieldy, drama tends to happen a lot less, at least in the circles I find myself in. I basically only use it to keep up with friends and see product announcements from synth companies. That kind of limited engagement wasn't possible when I had a Facebook account.

        Well yeah that's just your opinion man :). It's really not and I don't know why you would think it's vastly different from tiktok, twitter etc. The thing is that in a way it's way more sneaky with information scraping because people have this approach. With facebook you know when your spending too much time scrolling but insta just fly under the radar.

        That kind of limited engagement wasn't possible when I had a Facebook account.

        This is absolutely possible and just a matter of how you approach it and use it
