How reasonable would it be to make that button highlight if you've clicked inside the comment element? Reddit counts things as read if you've clicked on the body of the comment but that might not mesh well with some users here.
But having it pop out a tad when you've clicked (or hover-over if that's not too obnoxious) on a comment might be a good middleground to help us get accustomed to the button.
Not happening here. Each comment thread in your personal review page has a 'mark as read' button. They will persist until you tell the system you are done with the comment.
