Two minor design suggestions
I'll keep it short:
-
Comments box on top of the comments section. I realized that it might put more emphasis on reading before commenting, but sometimes reading can be too tedious. Some of the posts here reach 50+ comments, which can be a bit tedious to scroll past. The comments will only increase in number from now on. EDIT: It appear's this is a deliberate design choice for the reason that I guessed. Still hoped we got a choice, though.
-
Hide all child comments (like RES would allow on Reddit)
Thoughts?
You may be interested in this previous discussion: "We gotta move the comment box from the bottom of the comments to the top." TL;DR - It's a deliberate design choice and unlikely to change any time soon.
I was thinking of posting something about this, but then it occurred to me that it might be better this way. It cuts down on kneejerk comments and requires the user to scroll through the existing comments and possibly see if someone has already made their point.
Interesting. This is the second time I suggest an already-discussed feature or suggestion. I can't find them on my own before posting new threads.
Sad to hear it's deliberate. I understand the underlying reasons, but I'm not sold on the idea.
I cheated: I already knew that post existed because I'd already read it. So, I opened the ~tildes group and used the "find" feature of my browser to search for the word "box" on the page (because I know there's no search feature here yet).
Haha, you didn't cheat! That's the smartest thing to do, but I opted for skim-reading the group. I must have missed it.
Regarding point 1 - In my not so humble opinion, this is such a first world problem.
On a PC, just press the "End" key.
On a phone, just quick scroll to the bottom.
Done, no UI changes needed, and you've saved yourself precious seconds of reading and understanding, and I say that with all due sarcasm.
ok
I agree with this point and i thing its good UX.
This already exists there is a "-" on the top left of a comment.
I'm aware of the "-" for each individual comment. I was suggesting if there would be an option to collapse all child comments of top-level comments on a post. Much like one button to press for all "-" on the thread.
Ah sorry then. Yes that would be a good option i agree
I have a suggestion, I would like the image expander similar to how RES works with an image post.
I'd like that, too.
What about when you've scrolled past an X number of comments a button pops up that takes you directly to the chat box? That or a combination of time and distance scrolled brings up the button to prevent people from rage commenting or commenting just to be assholes.
