it's on purpose so that you actually interact with the content instead of just jumping to the vote button

Absolutely. This goes for the vote count being at the bottom of comments as well, along with the Vote "button". As well, the top-level comment box exists at the bottom of the topic as another intentional design choice.

All of these decisions are to encourage users to focus on the content first before reacting to it.

For the title it's left and top so for keeping your distance to the right or below is fine. For the comments you could go right or below too but with the comments there's already a set hierarchy from top down and additionally we already have additional functionality below the comment like reply or edit so we can just stick the vote next to those. The post itself doesn't have functionality below it with two exceptions. 1) you're OP. 2) there's no comments so just the reply box sits there but that sinks with new comments and doesn't apply anymore. So right or below is still fine.

It's may be on the left, but it is on the bottom, which allows the text to flow across the page.

That's actually clever that I think about it. I often find myself not caring to upvote good content.

I think the whole point of a lot of Tildes design is, and should be, focused on actually minimising the visibility of "scores" across the site. The credence a comment should be given should be indicated by its content, not by its score. On Reddit, it's an avalanche effect. Initially upvoted commentary will usually only get more upvoted, and initially downvoted commentary often gets downvoted even more. Your opinion on the comment gets swayed by its external rating—to the detriment of open and balanced discussion.

Anything which makes voting less visible or less imperative to content interaction gets a tick in my book.

I like it on the right seeing as I mostly interact with my phone with my right hand.

While the vote button being on the right is great for browsing posts to discourage just voting on titles, I do think that it needs to be somehow made more noticeable once I've clicked on the post. I hardly ever vote on posts, but I don't think putting it before the post is the answer. I think a simple emphasis on how it looks would help(like filling it in a different color), but there could be a more radical approach (such as putting an extra vote button down bellow all the comments).
