I use Facebook to keep up with the happenings of distant family (I'm nosey) and I've got a strong group of guys in a private group I keep tabs on.
Twitter is my instant news. I can stream live headlines and find the up and happening pretty quick when I'm in a news ticker watching mood. Intermingled with dumb memes from friends it's fun on occasion.
My family, my friends and I definitely don't appear affluent and I think I'm pretty damn cute but definitely not having a beauty pageant going on. Blocked people like that on my feeds long ago so I get to see what I want to see! I love filters! I get to make my social media sites work for me!I've noticed there's some pretty easy topics showing up in r/programminghumor too. On one hand some of the dumber jokes get old, rehashed and old again but on the other hand I'm glad a lot of new programmers are finding a sub they can join and feel a part of. If dumb dead horse beat memes are showing up a lot I'm inclined to think a new generation of coders are up and coming and it excites me that they want to participate with programmers beyond an academic context.

Shit I'm a native speaker and tone can often be hard to read! In English you can change the meaning of something just by putting emphasis on one word rather than another in the same exact sentence.

My current addon setup is just EFF's privacy badger, https everywhere, ublock origin and mozilla's containers. I really should but I don't block any JS right now.

I don't have any advice on the linux side and a little off topic but for breaking ties with google and using Firefox I'd say definitely look into the Containers extension by Mozilla themselves. In short you can compartmentalize websites into different "containers" to help aid privacy.
It's a little difficult for me to explain right now but their description is pretty good.
Firefox Multi-Account Containers lets you keep parts of your online life separated into color-coded tabs that preserve your privacy. Cookies are separated by container, allowing you to use the web with multiple identities or accounts simultaneously.
For example I have a social media container, a shopping container, a banking container, a job searching container and an entertainment container. So like linkedin, facebook reddit, tildes and twitter are logged in on the social media tabs but they can't see anything going on in my entertainment tabs where I'm logged into Netflix. And all of that is separated from my normal tabs where I can do google searches and misc internet things.

For the title it's left and top so for keeping your distance to the right or below is fine. For the comments you could go right or below too but with the comments there's already a set hierarchy from top down and additionally we already have additional functionality below the comment like reply or edit so we can just stick the vote next to those. The post itself doesn't have functionality below it with two exceptions. 1) you're OP. 2) there's no comments so just the reply box sits there but that sinks with new comments and doesn't apply anymore. So right or below is still fine.

On Tildes I don't have any filtered tags yet but I did unsubscribe from ~anime, ~books, ~food, ~games, ~movies, ~sports, and ~tv. Wow I just made that list and realized I cut out most of the fun groups... I'm not sure what that says about me haha. I unsubscribed from all of those because I either don't enjoy those things or if I do, I know what I like and don't have any inclination to discuss them.
Reddit is where I have the most things filtered out. Mostly entire subs from r/all but I have some users blocked too. Like poem_for_your_sprog. Don't get me wrong I like poems in the right context but it throws me off too much when I'm reading an askreddit thread and suddenly find myself reading a poem. A dumb pet peeve.
Facebook it's just random people blocked from showing on the newsfeed.
I have said "not interested" to videos on youtube more times than I would ever care to count. I'm not sure why but they have a really hard time giving me content I want to see. There's usually like 3 videos in the feed I'm down with and the rest is just garbage. They're good about not showing me things I said I'm not interested in but they can't seem to pinpoint what I actually want.

I do enjoy the comments sections there but it takes so much finagling to find a balance. I constantly have to change the sort of the comments so I can see what's happening off the band wagon. Even the small niche subs I like seem super susceptible to hive mind. I think having a downvote button and a culture of "love that hate that, my team your team, red fish blue fish" really doesn't bring the best in interesting conversation.
Here on Tildes though I don't get that vibe and I think that's what makes me more willing to comment. But we'll see. Time will tell.

Comment on 'The discourse is unhinged': how the media gets AI alarmingly wrong in ~tech

These algorithms scare me because they're tools, and just like any tool they can be used for better or for worse. A hammer can build a house or bludgeon someone to death. Despite the intent of what a hammer itself was built for it can be used in other ways. I can build a machine learning tool to help detect certain kinds of cancer and someone else can use a similar variation of the tool to gerrymander a district to their political leaning and often times with ridiculous accuracy, at least compared to doing it by hand. (Cancer detection vs gerrymandering is a bit of an exaggeration as far as dichotomy goes but both are already happening, so roll with me here)
We should be scared and wary of the consequences of this kind of technology but not for the reasons people think.
“We’ve told stories about inanimate things coming to life for thousands of years, and these narratives influence how we interpret what is going on now”
But it's not going to change anytime soon. At least we are talking about consequences? Even if they're farfetched? That's good right? I don't know.

GetsITAndy Oldie but a goodie. I like Big Data's music for the sake of music but I really appreciate the paranoid message too. Here's the lyrics.Oldie but a goodie. I like Big Data's music for the sake of music but I really appreciate the paranoid message too.
Here's the lyrics.I been watching you
I'm gonna get you high
The things I do to you
Gonna make you cry
Doesn't matter if you like it or not
Doesn't matter if you don't wanna play my game
Should I never ever ever forgot
You signed up
You gotta participate
Doesn't matter if you need it or not
Doesn't matter to me 'cause you're all the same
Should I never ever ever forgot
You signed up
Now there's no escape
Feel good
Make you feel good
I'm looking for emotion
So I know just what to show you
I can see you
See your answers
This business of emotion
Yeah I know just what to show you, baby
There's no consequence
Gonna rob you blind
Feed my experiments
Gonna bleed you dry
Doesn't matter if you like it or not
Doesn't matter if you don't wanna play my game
Should I never ever ever forgot
You signed up
You gotta participate
Doesn't matter if you need it or not

So I know just what to show you
I can see you
See your answers
This business of emotion
Yeah I know just what to show you, baby
Heart and soul
Bought and sold
It's good as gold

Even though there were other options in the Lincoln, NE area for internet we were locked to what they offered. I think I paid $60 for 25mbps that had a 1TB data cap a month. The data speed was consistent and even with P2P I only hit about 2/3rds the limit but it still always frustrated me that I had any data cap at all and that that ISP was my only option.

I can say that every thing I've bought checked with Fakespot has been fine, but that's extremely anecdotal and could just be a selection bias.
