Suggestion: tag limiting
Gotta limit the tags; I added maybe 5-6 tags on a submission, I know Instagram has a limit of 30 or so hashtags, if tags are going to be searchable or used for surfacing content in other contexts, limiting the hashtags would limit abuse of it.
Or maybe this already exists and I just haven't hit the limit... ;p
We have discussed this for sure, and AFAIK the plan is to eventually have a tag and metadata system displayed similar to Valve's Steam platform where only the top few most relevant tags (which we might be able to determine by letting trusted users vote on them) will show up on the front and group pages and the rest will be hidden below a fold.
E.g.
tag 1tag 2tag 3tag 4tag 5[+]And clicking the [+] shows you the rest. Same goes for metadata which we plan to scrape from the site submitted and using relevant database API's like api.thetvdb.com (for ~tv posts), etc. and show that in the topic info sidebar over there: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------>
That's a pretty cool system and I can see it working well here.

tags are currently limited to ASCII alphanumerics and spaces only but I am pushing to include some more alternate characters (namely, % $ &) however even those come with some drawbacks due to them being reserved characters in the URL spec.

The most aggressive post I know how to make needs this many tags. More than 5-6, but not more than 25. I'd go for a higher limit.
In fact, we might even go for 'tag clouds' and make something useful out of them for a change. It'd be interesting to see how that plays out. I can see value in a genre tag cloud in the sidebar of a music link, for example, especially if clicking on a tag brings up the search for that tag.
