How do we want to handle Podcasts?
So, when we want to link to a podcast , should we link to the webpage or preferred aggregator, or directly to the MP3? Should we have an embedded object for playing audio built into Tildes, or is that out of scope?
What about a particular episode, link to the official entry on their website rather than an iTunes page or the hosted mp3?
Yes. And the best part is that that is where they are likely to have a link to a transcription if they have one.
My preference would be a link to the website where I can choose my preferred method and platform for listening, which varies depending on whether I'm at home or not.
Episode link works best for context or transcripts. Posting a direct link to the media is tremendously useful. I tend to pick those up using mpv these days, which is amazeballs.
mpv, a terminal/shell media player, can source directly from local or remote media, and can make use of the youtube-dl URL handlers to pull from a huge range of online multimedia services, well beyond Google's viral disinformation video channel.
Cross-patform, runs on Linux, MacOS, Windows, etc. Also Android, under Termux.
I think it would be nice to link to the podcast webpage instead of the direct file. Podcasts are not known for predatory advertising, and they deserve the page views.
