Confusion with when I've voted

My biggest problem with this format thus far has been with the placement of the "Vote" button. I currently use the Solarized Dark theme (I enjoy the color scheme) and I find I keep unvoting things I've already voted up when checking through older posts. My eyes are left reading the headline, I forget I may have voted for it, and I go to unclick my vote.

I feel the vote button would be better if it was situated closer to where my eyes are for reading headlines. I spend a lot of time micromanaging ui placement in my mmos, so maybe I'm just pickier than others, but I don't like my eyes needing to jump all over the monitor when browsing through things.

Moving these elements closer together would be really helpful. I also wouldn't mind the Solarized Dark themes "Vote" and "Voted" colour having a little more contrast

You're not the first to complain of this and we're aware of this problem. We have added it to our gitlab issues tracker and will be addressing it when we can. We're kinda swamped at the moment! :P

I agree that the vote button placement can make it difficult to remember/see. I think it suits this website though. Similar to Hacker News, it seems that upvotes aren't very important (no downvotes, and the vote button is a bit out of place), they serve as a way to more generally curate content. I'm sure they'll change it if it doesn't work out.

I'm on the Black colour scheme and I absolutely agree that it's too difficult to tell if you've voted on something or not. A small colour change would be very helpful.

This is a problem for me on the black theme as well. I think maybe turning the vote button to dark-on-light when you vote on something would be sufficiently noticeable without being jarring.

Unvoted buttons have dotted borders, and voted have solid borders. Or maybe I just missed the point you are trying to make.

I believe you missed the point. My main concerns were with the placement (being all the way on the right when headlines are aligned to the left) and the color scheme in Solarized Dark being too similar. I feel like both of these points were pretty clear in my message. Were they not?

Solarized dark happens to be my selected theme.

When I get to a PC, I'll try to understand the placement issue you are seeing. But AFAIR, desktop also shows the same border difference. So the border tells if the topic is already voted or not. So I am trying to understand how "voted or not" confusion arises because of near/far placement.. you just look at the border.

I think it's a mix of: the contrast between voted/unvoted being fairly limited ( even with the un/dotted borders and the color changes ) + the constant coming back and forth between left and right due to the vote button placement.

I think the placement is correct and should stay there personally, but having it slightly more contrasted would help.
