This is a terrible thing and the result of a trend that claimed the production of new small cars in brands such as Mitsubishi. SUVs and trucks have been getting larger, more unpractical, more dangerous and don't offer a significant benefit against estate or saloon cars.

I fear that in the future we'll see estates replaced with gigantic SUVs that can barely fit a single box in their boots. With the advent of electric cars, that are significantly heavier, I don't see this being sustainable. Cars should be getting smaller, lighter, safer, and yet they're going the opposite way because "SUVs look sturdy"?

My dad just had to get rid of his Volvo estate which he's had since 2001. And it was 2nd hand when he got it. Definitely workhorses. The guy in the garage couldn't believe the mileage on it - can't remember exactly what it was but you can imagine what it would be with heavy usage, long distances and during that time period...

Just got himself another 2nd hand Volvo estate so that should see him through until his driving days are over!

It is sad to see these family cars going out of the market

My uncle bought a 760 estate in 1983, drove it for a decade and 800k km, then bought a 960 estate, drove it for a decade and 650k km, then bought a V70 which hes still driving, it has 1,2 million km on the clock. Hes retired now and keeps it in excellent condition.

Hes also very bitter at volvo. He bought a S60 for his daughter, with that shitty french diesel in it. The turbo broke at 60k km, the engine blew up 12k km after that. He said he will never buy a new volvo but will drive his V70 into the grave.
