Why do they use the term 'busted' - it collided and was damaged.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of this trend of news reports using more vernacular. It sounds very tabloid-y and doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Plus, "busted" can colloquially be used like "police busted X doing Y," so it adds ambiguity.

It's a challenge to know when to edit a title and when to leave it alone for sure.
I'm partial to using this template for titles: "Description of article: 'Official Article Title'." My opinion about it solidified when I saw an article here whose title asked a specific question about whether college was valuable. That title encouraged me to want to share my unscientific, low-effort opinions about college even though I had no interest in the article. Focusing more on a description helps people know if they're interested in reading it or not. Of course, my one submission like this didn't get much response, so it's probably boring to title submissions this way.
Yeah, when I read the headline I assumed that the police had impounded the vehicle or something like that, not that it had been damaged.
If I have to guess, it is because part of the car detached from the frame and landed in the street.
Part of the problem is the industry struggles to find sufficient revenue to pay adequate editorial staff and journalists. I've said this before but craigslist and other platforms killed classified ads and associated income to news organizations. Other changes have hit hard also. All newspapers are struggling.
Bustin' makes me feel good!
The article not only describes this accident but links to reports of various other recent accidents involving autonomous vehicles in San Francisco.
