Really disappointing to see as a New Zealander to be honest. This is one of those scenarios where I constantly mull over in my head, in the unlikely event I was asked for my phone password, how I'd react. Frankly, I'd love to see our weak customs & border security attempt to apply "forensic search" to one of the most secure and encrypted models of phone currently made.
This makes me wonder if there could be a way to run a VM over a VPN connection for all apps and phone operations so that nothing is stored locally. Essentially running a private cloud based mobile...

That's an interesting idea! It might be easier to try and boot from a live disk sd card or something. The card itself would be easily missed in a search, or the disk image could be stored in the...

It seems like it would be feasible so I'm surprised I haven't seen anything like it yet. Of course you would need a decent mobile data or WiFi connection though.

Welp, note to self - give the NZ an American treatment - wipe my phone before crossing the border, download a cloud backup when inside.
