Yeah, totally agree that they should chill to prevent burning out their devs. I'd imagine this letter is coming out to preempt the hype from getting out of hand in the next couple months where they'd have a better sense of when it'll be done.

An extra month seems pretty reasonable for an extension, though I'll admit I'm not a developer so I have no idea how long QA takes. It'll still make it in time for christmas sales so that should keep shareholders happy too.

I revisited the city I grew up in around December / January. Before I moved, the winters had definitely been softening over time, but always getting below freezing. This last year was incredibly warm, with the temperature only dipping below freezing overnight. I was really looking forward to snow, but it just wasn't in the cards this year.

Apparently this year was exceptionally warm, but it does seem to be only an outlier by magnitude rather than trajectory. Its kinda strange to see these changes in actual comprehensible time scales. Maybe I would've noticed it sooner if I hadn't been experiencing this incredible amount of time dilation (for lack of a better term) over the last few years from stress and other social factors.

I never found hot cocoa to be chocolatey enough so I end up making a thicker drinking chocolate. You can change up the spices as you feel necessary, e.g. add nutmeg or chili powder. I really like to serve it with a shot of espresso on top.

    Ingredients:

    • 4 fl oz Heavy whipping cream
    • 4 fl oz Half & half
    • 4 oz 70-80% Dark Chocolate
    • A vanilla bean
    • A cinnamon stick or two

    Instructions:

    1. Place cream, half & half, vanilla bean, and cinnamon stick into a sauce pan and heat until warm
    2. Break chocolate apart to speed up melting process while milk warms
    3. Remove vanilla bean and cinnamon sticks from milk
    4. Melt the chocolate into the milk and serve

Lots to unpack here, but whether consciousness is an emergent property of a sufficiently complex system of interactions or not seems to be the crux of the issues with consciousness. My guess is that resistance this idea comes from how we as individuals would be merely elements in the greater system of planetary consciousness you're laying out. These 'thoughts' on this planetary level would be so alien to our own, how can we even begin to understand what they are and what they mean?

This is a really intriguing line of thought, I'll have to really give these ideas some consideration.

I am truly and deeply sorry that your evangelistic faith is getting dragged through the mud in this way. In my experience the label you were struggling to name is generally evangelical for mainstream US discourse even if it's not the most theologically sound differentiator to pick.

In seeing these 'churches' operating and the resistance to them growing, I wouldn't be surprised to see a massive theological shift in the church at large in response.

I know that voting is important, but when the government is this much of a shitshow its hard to maintain the stance that I can do anything to stop/fix these problems

Not sqew, but if people are ultimately a product of the situation at hand, then on what moral grounds do you enact a punishment for crime? Is it reasonable to imprison those that "only" did wrong not because of innately evil choices, but because that's the way the universe is? While these questions may be easily explained by some mode of ethics, they are of legitimate concern to the layman, who is less knowledgeable and would serve in juries and participate in the politics responsible for laws.

In the end I think that the existence of punishment for crime tilts society in large away from the criminal acts and is therefore a reasonable course of action even in a deterministic case. Convincing the general public of this would be much more difficult, and in the interim it is likely that people will use this idea of determinism to justify violent criminal acts.

Before I started getting interested in philosophy I simply assumed that everyone had incompatibilist libertarian free will. After doing a little bit of reading about it I've found some convincing arguments that this may not be the case, but barring any experimental evidence confirming these arguments I am not comfortable with leaving the incompatibilist libertarian stance at this point.

I'm a bit afraid that if I delve too deeply into this I'll fall into an existential spiral, which I really can't afford to do right now, so I'm kinda passing the buck off for future me to deal with.
