I was looking at some of the Emmy nominees. First of all, I got the limited series category really wrong. Maid seemed like a sure thing to get nominated (it even got nominated in directing, writing, and editing) but somehow Inventing Anna got the Netflix nomination instead despite terrible reviews. Pam and Tommy also surprised over The Staircase. I didn’t actually end up finishing Pam and Tommy. I don’t know why, I kind of just lost interest in the story. I enjoyed what I watched though so I’m fine with that nomination.
Though I’d say the limited series category is unbelievably weak this year compared to last year which had Queen’s Gambit, Mare of Easttown, WandaVision, The Underground Railroad, and I May Destroy You.
The only big nomination that Disney+ got was for animated series for What If (which wasn’t highly predicted but I predicted it thank you very much) so Disney flopped. Loki got a lot of technical nominations and Moon Knight got some nominations. But yeah, nothing compared to the success of WandaVision. Probably due to that show being incredibly well received by everyone, and also the fact that it was celebrating the history of television which is why Emmy voters ended up liking it a lot.
Edit: This was a lie. Disney actually got a TV movie nomination for Chip n Dales.
Happy for What We Do in the Shadows getting a nomination, but I’m disappointed that Marvelous Mrs Maisel got in probably due to lazy namechecks. This last season was terrible and didn’t deserve any awards recognition.
There's one thing a movie/TV show can do to make me immediately interested: frantic hyperpaced editing to convey stressful situations. When it's done well, it hits me like nothing else. The pilot of The Bear did it really, really well. Half of it feels like a relentless march without a real full break, and it's great at bottling up that line cook stress and conveying it well. The show calms down a bit afterwards but that first episode is something really special, like a miniaturized Uncut Gems sequence or something.
Not to bombard you guys with Emmy stuff. But I’ll quickly post my predictions for wins.

Kenobi -- the Patterson Cut was posted the other day and is getting a lot of press. Its pretty good, overall, but there are a handful of cuts that are super awkward. That being said, there are some truly magical improvements that make it worth a watch.
Nothing else is new. If anybody wants to make their Wexler predictions, I'm all ears :)
