TV Tuesdays Free Talk
Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
Watched the first season of Twin Peaks, 5-6/10.
It's probably the most inconsistent show I have ever watched. It has aged poorly at best and was outright bad at worst. Especially the finale was just awful. Friend said season 2 is worse than season 1 so I'll just stop here. It had everything though. Fun scenes, weird stuff, artsy things, soap-opera crap, clichés, tropes... most of it seemed poorly made but it is of course over 3 decades old. I would still not expect to burst out in laughter at what ought to be very dramatic scenes, for example this one, I mean how can you take the sock swinging sound effect serious lol
Also watched the second season of The Diplomat, 7/10.
Season one was approaching a 9/10 for me and while the second season certainly delivers with the sharp dialogue from the first, which is the biggest reason the show is great, some of the story beats are contrived to point of stupid which is especially a problem in a story driven show like this. Still looking forward to season 3 though and would still recommend the show if you like high paced political thriller.
I had a bad flu many years ago and while laying on my couch soaked in sweat watched all of Twin Peaks.
That is the best way to watch it. Damn fine show... And hot.
I'm a 'fan' of Lynch not because he makes the best art but because he makes his art.
Could I tell you watch happened in the show? No, I was dying and desperately drinking Pedialyte in between bathroom trips. Could ANYONE say what Twin Peaks was about after the first watch? Probably not unless you were taking notes.
Friend really swears by him and this first season was just barely worth the time. I rate his take on Dune the same and I have to say that I really dislike everything else he's made. I remembered Mulholland Dr. as being pretty good but it was 10 years since I saw it and when another friend and I gave it a go last month, we quit after ~45 minutes because of how completely bored we were. Definitely going to just entirely give up on him, thank you lol, yes.
The Day of the Jackal posted and I can't wait!
I just started, but it looks awesome. The pace is great.
Looks pretty good. Will check it out once the whole thing is out!
it’s all out :) the rips are from sky atlantic.
Oh, hmm, I'm not finding anything at all. Just the episodes that IMDB also says are released. I'll just wait I suppose but thanks anyway!
it should be posted to wherever you steal from. Peacock acquired north american rights.
Ooh, interesting. I've got the novel to read, which I've heard is great, this'll give me the kick to read the book and watch the show.
its been a while since I read the book, but I'm going to reread it in a few days. Have you seen the movie?
No, never actually seen any adaptation of the book, it's completely unknown to me.
I got into reading spy thrillers a couple of years ago, especially the Bond novels, and my dad suggested The Day of the Jackal, saying it's a great one, so I bought it but it's sat in my bookcase since.
I'll need to bump it up the list and get it read as it sounds right up my street then I can watch the adaptations.
I love the Bond novels. Way better than the movies.
So in the movie, there's this fairly long, well-paced scene where he's assembling this fancy gun. Its so measured and beautiful, in a way. This series totally captured it perfectly. Fincher's The Killer paid a lot to the book and film, too.
