I’ve watched 2 of the 3 available episodes of Andor. It’s fantastic so far. I’m not sure where things are going plotwise and so far it’s a little hard to follow. I assume that will get sorted as the season continues.
The production is absolutely top tier. There are clearly very elaborate sets and props and costumes that are seamlessly integrated with the CG. Maybe they are using “The Volume” a lot but it isn’t obvious to me so far.
I just came here to gush about the production! the sets etc are unbelievable.
Daredevil: Born Again - 6/10
Major gripe with the show upon starting to watch was that I had no clue where it picked up from. Maybe this is a 🏴☠️ issue but I looked on youtube as well: Where was the recap/explainer? It follows an 8-10 year old show.. how am I supposed to remember anything?
I disliked how little action there is. Sure, there are scenes in every episode (I think) that has violence etc., but there are what, 2 or 3 big fights across the season? The middle of the season didn't quite work for me - the tiger hero being judged innocent was fine, but the serial killer sidequest was just lame and overly shock porny. There are also several eyeroll moments - conveniences, coincidences, dumb writing. Even for a piece of superhero media, the therapist just so happens to be Daredevil's girlfriend and his arch enemy's therapist? Daredevil takes a bullet for his arch nemesis, and they brush it off with him saying he doesn't know why he did it? Ehm, no, something like that requires some more explanation.. so dumb lol. Another dumb thing was the ending. It's such an annoying cliffhanger. They could have wrapped it up in 1 or 2 more episodes but I'm sure they will stretch it out to a full season next year.
Anyway, it had good parts as well of course. I guess it's just easier to point out the bad since it's often actually bad because it sticks out, and the good parts don't really stick out because I expect it to be good? Or at least competent?
Some of the archs were great. I especially liked Gus from The Wire even though his part wasn't the biggest. It was cool to see Punisher again for some scenes. Was very excited to see the step father from the Hawkeye show, he's just such a joy to watch, but so it's a shame how little his role was,, basically a cameo. Kingpin actor was great too - so big and scary and so much screen presence! And that scene from GoT has now been one-upped, holy shit lol! The Daredevil actor I'm actually kind of meh about. He's not bad at all, don't get me wrong, just kind of inoffensive and too safe in a way. He doesn't do anything special to stand out. He's just kind of there. Maybe that's why the original series also didn't entirely impress me? In any case, this was an alright show and worth the watch. I'll watch season 2 but I still don't expect all that much.
Anyone watching Mobland (2025) -- its Guy Ritchie --- but a refined Guy Ritchie. Definitely his aesthetic but still extremely grounded.
Anyway, great show with good violence, jokes, etc.
