The End of the F***ing World - Netflix

Has anyone else seen this show? It came out last October. I just saw it about a month ago, probably a little less. It has got to be one of the best thing I've seen all year. Top 3.

I love the entire theme, the atmosphere, how everything is done. The direction is incredible. And the actors are ridiculously good.

In the show the two main characters will narrate their thoughts as they are happening in the moment. There is brilliant joke where Alyssa is narrating her thoughts and she thinks something along the lines of, "If This were a movie we would probably be American." Because the show is set in Britain and she is thinking to herself, what if this is all a movie.

The show is a dark comedy. And it's just got this incredible motif for lack of a better word. Has anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts? I really like Alyssa's character. Just how she is so empathetic, and she thinks far enough into everything to weigh both sides in a way not a lot of people would do. She basically givea the benefit of the doubt and weighs both sides more than she should.

I honestly didn't like it :-/ stopped after the 4th episode. I am surprised that you find Alyssa empathetic, I didn't find either of them empathetic at all.

They were toward each other more so. It's definitely a specific theme / style. So I understand it not being for everyone.

Yeah I mean it received great praise and a lot of my friends loved it but I just couldn't. The direction was obviously good as well as the acting but as you said, it was not for me.

A lot of people hate Catcher in the Rye because of those things, so I can see not liking this series.

Ah, that's a real shame. What didn't you like about her? Her attitude?

I mean, I get that she had a shitty upbringing, so I don't blame her, but it doesn't make for an endearing character. I probably wouldn't mind if Jame's character was more interesting/endearing. You have to have at least one character you are rooting for.

Anyway, I found Alyssa funny but far from empathetic. She can differentiate right from wrong and is not a total dick, but beyond that it's not someone you'd want around, unless you have what it takes to manage her.

James is interesting. At first he reminded me of some stupid kid who once posted something equally stupid on the internet "I'm a psychopath, I can turn my emotions off with a mental switch. Sometimes I turn them on to have fun." (yes, I really read that), so James behavior was really eye-rolling. And I couldn't help but think of all the edgy teens who would identify themselves with him and feel validated.

But then, James evolved. He realised he wasn't a heartless POS and that he needed people. From that point on the story was more enjoyable.

It was a good show. Not the best thing ever but the story evolved nicely and the ending was compelling. Since it's rather short too I think people should really give it a chance.

I think she was empathetic toward James. Anyone else would have just written James off. Besides his father.
