No one is their right mind would create a device to prevent someone to see anything "dangerous" just to preserve their stress level (since it's basically all it's doing, the tracking is just a bonus).

Let's say someone equiped with this thing is "witnessing" an assault, all they'd see would be a blurry mess, puting themselves in immediate danger. Same thing with a car crash, they wouldn't see a thing and just add to the surrounding chaos by running over someone or being run over.

And I'm not even talking about the very idea of locking someone in a bubble, making them inapt to live in our society.

Everything about this screams "terrible idea" and made they whole thing hardly believable. In all honesty, "Arkangel" was so bad that I've yet to watch the following episodes.

As of right now, when you choose a theme, a theme cookie is created which takes a simple string value (white, light, dark or black).

It's straightforward and it works well, but for someone like me who set his browser to delete cookies at the end of his session, it's a little inconvenient to have to go into my settings to set a theme everytime I log on Tildes.

It's a low-priority request, obviously, but maybe you could consider it? I do understand that it makes sense to have it as a cookie since a user may prefer different themes on different devices.

In the meantime I think I'll just write a script to set my theme to black automatically.

Saw it, liked it. What's funny is that it isn't a Netflix show, Netflix just bought the rights from Channel 4 and when it was initially broadcast... no one gave a shit about it.

Anyway, I found Alyssa funny but far from empathetic. She can differentiate right from wrong and is not a total dick, but beyond that it's not someone you'd want around, unless you have what it takes to manage her.

James is interesting. At first he reminded me of some stupid kid who once posted something equally stupid on the internet "I'm a psychopath, I can turn my emotions off with a mental switch. Sometimes I turn them on to have fun." (yes, I really read that), so James behavior was really eye-rolling. And I couldn't help but think of all the edgy teens who would identify themselves with him and feel validated.

But then, James evolved. He realised he wasn't a heartless POS and that he needed people. From that point on the story was more enjoyable.

It was a good show. Not the best thing ever but the story evolved nicely and the ending was compelling. Since it's rather short too I think people should really give it a chance.

StartPage is my go-to search engine (for those not in the known, it uses Google search results anonymously).

I do like DDG bangs, so I made my own as Firefox keywords.

What I dislike about DDG has been brought up often, but things haven't changed in years: the lack of a date for their search results. Half of the time it makes their results worthless, when I'm looking for a technical information I need up-to-date informations. I don't have time to check link after link.

Otherwise, their search results are decent, but in my case it's just an annoyance.

PS: Yes, I know I can make DDG only show me links from yesterday/last week/last month, but that's not what I'm looking for.

They're really stretching the content of their article with such a title.

All the journalist found was only a few people too invested in a story-driven dating sim. He only briefly mentions someone who married a virtual character.

Don't get me wrong, it's not uninteresting, but that title... urgh

Anyway as far as what he describes in his article goes, these people are less "addicted" to their dating sim than most MMO players are addicted to their game.

Which doesn't mean "people falling for scripted robots" isn't a thing, it is, it just doesn't "work" as described here. Because really, Mystic Messenger seems rather harmless and more like a digital Choose Your Own Adventure book with a shitty schedule.

In the end I don't think dating sims are some kind of "problem" or "aberration", but what may be problematic is how some people use them. So like everything else, basically. Some people just don't know where to draw the line.

If you guys have YouTube Red, Michael Stevens (vSauce) made an episode of his show Mind Field about Artificial Intelligence. It features a man in love with a character from a 3DS game. I mean... you gotta see it.

We also have some companies marketing AI companions, obviously aiming for people in lack of human interactions, like this one. What's aweful here, to me, is that I feel like they're just preying on the weak. And yet, while I find this really sad, it also looks kind of... comforting?

    Weird stuff, I tell you.

    Edit: a letter.

Well anyway we'll see. And I sure hope you're right, otherwise CBS shutting down Stage 9 would be really unfair to Trek fans.

Unless they changed it, it won't really be an origin story, it's an Elseworlds story. For those not familiar with DC, it's a story set in another world, out of the main continuity (or branching from it).

It means they can pull a lot of crazy stuff and get away with it. If you want some good examples of Elseworlds stories from DC, you should read Superman: Red Son (for the love of God don't read its Wiki article) or read/watch Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

What I expect from this movie really is a short intro explaining what their Elseworlds are and how they can differ from the DCEU. Something simple so everyone can understand the concept (which should be fairly easy) with some snippets of comics/past movies flashing on the screen, then cut to the story of this Joker.

Just imagine the possibilities in the long run. They could have some movies starring Christian Bale, Affleck and Keaton fighting a common threat together created by the universes colliding or something. You can even do that with some no-name actors to tease a concept and see if the public is interested.

If done well, Elseworlds movies can be a goldmine and have the possibility to make hardcore and casual fans happy.

    Edit: typos.

I'm late to the party, but I'm just done watching this and... I quite liked it.

The story starts really slowly because of how the first two episodes are structured, but then it picks up and stays interesting until the very end.

I was really surprised by Jonah Hill, I didn't know he had such range! And I was glad that, for once, a character in a series/movie (when you think about it Maniac US really is a movie) suffering from mental illness was actually seeking help, instead of running from it.

Hill and Stone had the opportunity to show us a variety of emotions and it was quite fun to watch. The rest of the cast was great too, of course.

In the end I think some plot points are open to debate since not everything is fully explained, but that's ok. You can take the story as if or you can try to look deeper into it, there's room to enjoy both approach.

If I had to summarize Maniac real quick in a spoiler-free manner, I'd say it's a story about people coping with their emotions.

In quite a weird way, Maniac made me feel... hopeful. I recommend it.

PS: I think I'm still in love with Emma Stone. Send help.

It's a shame, really, their client offers some useful options (mainly cloud saves) and is a good alternative to Steam's. Admittedly, I don't think that would help them make a ton of money to release one, but it's still the way to go if they really want to make a difference.

In the meantime, Linux users looking for a game client still have Lutris.
