Feels so odd seeing a modern show using puppets and practical stuff instead of cgi. It is just so much different compared to what I normally and expect to see.

Well, it does use CGI in quite a few shots that I can see, so it's not like they are trying to be the practical effects masters here. That being said, The Dark Crystal still stands at the Pinnacle...

But yes, I do wish more films used puppets. A well designed puppet and a talented puppeteer will probably be more realistic than CGI for the foreseeable future. I personally find it amazing that the new star wars films have decades of advancements in the field and yet still don't have believable CGI characters.
The worst offense I've seen was The Thing prequel they did wherein they'd originally used puppets that looked amazing, and then replaced it all with CGI in post production. It's crazy that there's...
I'm at work so I can't really watch the video all the way, but I skipped through it with the audio off. When they moved the heads on that thing I almost screamed....

Agree wholeheartedly. I’m a Star Wars apologist. I love everything Star Wars and have been called a Disney shill more times than I can count for liking ALL of the recent films. That being said,...

That being said, how Lucas managed to have such a downgrade in quality from ESB Yoda, which is just phenomenally done and made in 1980, to the TPM puppet and subsequent CGI Yoda blows my mind.
I get they wanted Yoda to fight and be more active which is why they went CGI but it just looks bad compared to how good ESB Yoda looks. It looks CGI and fake whereas ESB Yoda could pass for real.
This looks pretty awesome, but I'm confused -- is this a prequel? Extension of the movie? Sequel? Reimagining/spin-off/alternate timeline? It's been a while since I've seen the movie; I'll have to...

It's been a while since I've seen the movie; I'll have to watch it again to
figure out how it relates, but I did love the movie!
I'm worried, actually, about the practical effects and CGI clashing with each
other.
It's a prequel from long before the movie, if I understand that correctly. And I think it's easy to be worried about the puppetry in a flashy-trailer with lots of VFX, but I'm hoping it'll be...

And I think it's easy to be worried about the puppetry in a flashy-trailer with lots of VFX, but I'm hoping it'll be comparable to my track record with puppets, where it just takes me a few minutes to settle in and go with it.
Conversely, I'd have honestly been OK if they went the Where the Wild Things Are route and just CG'd the mouths but kept everything else as puppets.

It's crazy that there's so much invisible VFX I never notice or care about, but the second a character or prop is entirely CGI, there goes my immersion.

Thanks for the clarification.
I really liked how Where the Wild Things Are looked; if it's like that it'll
be great for me.
