Ending of S01E08
Why did you make it ambiguous whether or not Dad appeared? Either Alma leaves with her sister and it doesn't matter, or he appears to her one more time and gestures her into the cave, and have *that* be your ambiguous ending. This doesn't really make a statement on anything, and Alma doesn't really get to make a statement on what she learned from this outside of "got gud" at time travel.

re: the ending,
I think her powers were real, but that he didn't come back as we may have expected. I think that bright light was her bringing back that moment from her childhood when they were at the empty pool.
I really love that they left it open ended. I think showing it (either way) would have taken away from the adventure of it all.
Overall, I love rotoscoping, and the aesthetic was perfect for this sort of story. One thing I didn't catch on to until the socks scene was that Alma is the older sister. This didn't have any impact on the story, but it wasn't clear at first (unless I missed something.)
I absolutely LOVED how they worked with the cochlear implant. It was so natural and played into the story in such a subtle, yet perfect way.
Kate Purdy also wrote The Old Sugarman Place and Time’s Arrow for Bojack Horseman -- two episodes that touch on similar themes, to a point.
Raphael Bob-Waksberg has a collection of short stories out called, Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory that, from what I've read, is written with a similar tone to this series -- that dark-but-beautiful and funny air.
I loved the experimental animation of the show. Worth the watch for that alone. I also loved the characters and thought the depiction of how they related to each other was very deep and endlessly...

Some people aren't happy about the ending but I'm choosing to believe there's a season 2.

Becca states that Alma must be jealous her younger sister is getting married before her.
