Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
We watched more of Ted Lasso. I'm really liking it! I wish they had released it all at once instead of one episode per week. There were several episodes available when we started, so we got through about half the season, and then ran out of episodes. I don't tend to binge shows, but I usually will watch 1 episode per day for several days.
We also started Cobra Kai which is now available on Netflix. It is very true to its source material. Which is to say that it's cheesy and full of 80s cock rock. It's not great, but it's funny, sometimes even when not trying to be. The characters are overly dramatic (just like the music), but it works in context.
If anyone has even the most basic interest in football --- and really, even if you don't -- Hard Knocks is a great documentary series from HBO. This season is following the training camps for the LA Rams and LA Chargers.
It's interesting to see the impact of COVID19 and the murder of Jacob Blake on pro sports -- especially in the pre-season.
Last season followed the Oakland Raiders and was an excellent season. Both are definitely worth a watch.
I watched the show World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji on Prime Video. It was really good. They really managed to show how hard the race is and we got lots of great points of view. The host is Bear Grylls. It's really cool to see him go around the various teams to keep them motivated.
66 teams had to travel 671km through Fiji on an 11 day race.
I sometimes watch Would I Lie To You? on YouTube. It's presented by David Mitchell. I quite love it.
So it wasn't particularly surprising to me that Only Connect showed up in my recommendations. It's presented by Victoria Coren Mitchell, David's wife. I've had it in my watchlist for a while, and I know it's a clever, nerdy game show. And I was bored so, from my tv, I clicked on the episode.
I thought it was funny that there was a fellow named Tom Scott in the episode, but he looks nothing like the Tom Scott we all know and it is a pretty common name. So I figured it was a coincidence, right up until he opened his mouth and my mind was blown.
And the comments on that video are priceless.
