I'm on Android so take that as you will. As long as the app has a notification that pops to the main notification drawer it can scrape them. I will add because of that the Garmin app DOES need fairly high-level permissions on the device.
My wife has had some issues where the notifications will quit working and need reset but I attribute those to her old phone as I've not had that problem.

It's not a full-blown smart watch (I.E. you can't run apps on it) but I have never needed that feature. It DOES require the phone app for notifications as the app is what monitors and pushes them to the watch.
I will also note that Garmin support is outstanding. I had battery issue with me first one some 6 months out of warranty and they still replaced it without me even asking. I had simply reached out to see if they offered a repair program.
My one real complaint with it is that there is no automatic quiet hours. My previous smart watches would automatically suspend notifications to the watch when it detected you asleep. The Instinct (and I suspect all Garmin watches) only let you set quite hours and this applies 7 days a week. You can't even set different hours on the weekend. I submitted a feature request some 2 years ago but it's gone nowhere.
Regardless, when it finally dies I'll replace it with an Instinct 2.
Any specific questions let me know!

We (humans) have come up with clever tricks to emulate thinking, but (assuming this does what's claimed) this would truly allow computers to think like humans. The implications of that are pretty far-reaching. Think self-driving vehicles or robotics. The SUPER interesting bit to me is this combination of traditional silicone with brain tissue here. It makes me wonder if we can have the best of both worlds with an an AI that can truly think with a computer that can logically make the best decision. Not an expert in any related field (unless you count IT) so those are more my musing than anything else, lol.

I get around 2 weeks on a charge if I'm not using the GPS.
I'll also note, at the risk of sounding like a shill, Garmin customer support is incredible. I had issues with the battery on my first one after the warranty ran out and they still replaced it for me. When this one finally dies I'll get another Garmin, probably the Instinct 2.

If possible, try to meet some of your potential neighbors. A bad neighbor can make even the best house miserable.
Size of the lot/how much mowing you may have to do. I hate mowing, fortunately my lot is tiny and I can mow + trim in ~30 minutes.
Can you get a pizza or other food delivered? It sounds cheesy (heh) but sometimes after a long day I just want food and don't want to even think about cooking.
How long your commute will be (if you have one) and remember that's 2x a day for 5 days of the week.I'm sure there are others, those were just quickly off the top of my head.

I think my favorite (and most brutal hike) was Angel's Landing in Zion some 12 years ago now. That trip down was so hard on my ankles I could step off a curb without pain for nearly a week, lol.
One of these days I would love to go down into the Grand Canyon.
It's rare that I'm proud of my fellow ohioans but this is one of those times. Glad to see people got out there and shot down this obvious power grab by the GOP. Looking forward to November when abortion is added to our constitution as a right!
