If someone says they don't like tofu, I make this dish to change their mind. It's great over rice or beside a salad. You can adjust the size of tofu cubes to suit your tastes as well as the heat level. I've sprinkled both sesame seeds or chopped green onions over it and both are great. It's a simple, tasty dish that's really good and people seem to think it's more impressive than it actually is.

    Sesame Garlic Tofu

    • 1 Block firm or extra firm tofu, drained and pressed
    • 3 Tbsp cornstarch
    • 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil
    • 1/4 c soy sauce
    • 1/4 c water
    • 1 Tbsp hot honey
    • 1-2 tsp sambal oelek depending on your heat preference
    • 1 garlic clove; grated, minced or sliced thin
    • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar

    1. Cube the tofu, toss with 2 Tbsp of cornstarch
    2. Heat the sesame oil on medium and fry tofu until it's browned
    3. While the tofu browns, whisk together all other ingredients
    4. Remove your pan from heat, add the liquid to the tofu and stir immediately until thickened

It's a microgenre but I love Wattswave/Alan Watts chillstep/meaningwave/philstep. No idea if there any any distinctions between those genres or they're all names for the same thing.

The first song I heard was INZO - Overthinker and it just coincidentally happened right when I was starting to read some Stoic writings. They went well together in my mind. That lead me to Akira the Don who has made quite a bit of Wattswave. If it appeals to you at all, check out Wattswave II: How to be a Better Person

It's relaxing, the content of what Alan Watts is saying is always interesting (I often listen to his recorded lectures) and sometimes if I'm in a bad mood or just off somehow I can put it on, focus on the words and get feeling a bit better by thinking on some of those higher concepts because it distracts me.

Also, if you're a psychedelia enthusiast, it's required listening.

I rewatched Hell or High Water (2016) last night. If you haven't seen it, highly recommend. I'm a simple man, you put Ben Foster in a film and I'm here for it. Really though, everyone gives a great performance, the plot is tight and the movie doesn't run even a second too long. Anyway, for anyone who has seen the movie:

Potential Spoilers At the very end, when Hamilton and Toby are at the ranch and the family shows up, it's clear that whatever was building between the two of them can't continue and Hamilton moves to leave. Toby says something along the lines of "I have an apartment in town, you're welcome any time and I'd like to be done with this. Maybe I can give you some peace." Was this supposed to be a quiet threat along the lines of "Show your face around me again and I'll kill you" or more of an understanding offer like "you're the lawman at the end of his run, I'm the outlaw, let's finish this in proper old-west style if that's what you're looking for"?

Typically I'd say it's the former but Toby isn't a killer and really isn't threatening throughout the film. He's accomplished what he wanted and probably is feeling tortured by what went down, is he ready to go into the sunset at the hands of the Ranger?

Either way wouldn't change how much I like the film, I'm just wondering how other people interpreted this part?

I'm not a pro chef, just a home cook who has tried to up my game the last few years. Game changer for me was buying quality knives. If you can only afford one, get a chef's knife and keep it sharp. You can do almost anything you need with it. I have other knives but reach for the chef's 95% of the time.

I think the reason it helped me is that the more comfortable you are and the easier your cooking tasks become, the more you can focus on your food and what you're doing with it. I can do my prep in 1/4 of the time and I've tried to get better at the various mincing, julienne, etc. Bottom line, your work will be easier and more enjoyable, a sharp knife is a safe knife, and your food will look better and as someone mentioned above, good presentation only helps the experience of eating.

I'm not good at labelling genres but all these are reimagined pretty heavily:

Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence and Simon & Garfunkel's Sound of Silence

Seether's Careless Whisper and George Michael's Careless Whisper

Sturgill Simpson's In Bloom and Nirvana's In Bloom

Edit: thought of a few more.

Bad Wolves' Zombie vs Cranberries Zombie

Five Finger Death Punch have a bunch but Blue on Black is the best IMO. Smith & Myers have an excellent version too.

Speaking of Smith & Myers, they also have a ton of great ones like Sledgehammer. Originally Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer

YT Premium is one of the only subscriptions I find worthwhile. It's expensive but I listen to music or YouTube eight hours per day a lot of times and that's the value for me. Netflix, Prime, etc just don't get used enough for me to justify paying for them. I use Spotify a few times a month because I'm in a music league but I can't believe people pay for Spotify, it's just garbage in so many ways.

Could YouTube Premium be a bit cheaper? Yes, but I will continue to subscribe at this price for now.

Been playing Shapez a lot lately. I've put about 70 hours in. I love automation games and factory games where a big part of the game is optimizing and managing efficiency. One of my favs of all time is Infinifactory.

When I first started Shapez I was thinking "is this it?" but as you go through the levels it gets good quick. I think I'm around level 30 right now and while it's not super challenging, you can get pretty involved in optimizing your builds which is a challenge in and of itself.

Lots of great advice already here.

    1. Buy a half-decent drill/impact driver combo and a cheap set of bits. My parents gave me the same when we bought our first place and they've been used countless times over the years. I have built a pretty good tool box over the years for DIY home maintenance but my impact driver would be the one thing I'd keep if I had to choose. You can save a stupid amount of money using youtube and a few cheap tools to DIY the stuff you're comfortable doing.
    2. Change your furnace filter and any other filters you may have. Mark down the date you change and set a reminder when it needs it again.
    3. Others have said it but its great advice: paint and do flooring work as much as possible before you move in. It will never get easier than it is right now.

We just watched both seasons of The Bear in the last couple weeks. (Still have the last two episodes of S2 to finish though.) I didn't feel as let down by the second season but I can't stand the love-interest being jammed into the story. So far it feels like it was for no reason other than "movies and TV always need a romantic storyline" which happens more often than not.

I thought "Fishes" and "Forks" (eps 6 & 7) were such an amazing pair of episodes, back to back. The tension in Fishes was on another level, similar to "Brigade". (S01E03)

Warpath - It was a shareware game from the 90s where you fly around in a spaceship and extract resources from planets and try to spread your empire. You could upgrade your ship capacity, fuel etc. I sunk a ton of hours into it. I think it's still available on the devs website which hasn't been updated in awhile. System requirements:

Warpath 97 plays best on a Pentium 90 or better (and that is an honest appraisal, not one of those 'works great on a 286!' promises you see on the game boxes). I've played it on a 486/66 and the frame rate is OK, but not smooth.

But it requires Windows 95 (or later) which pretty much rules out a 486 computer anyway. If you want to play over the internet, you will also need an Internet Service Provider (but hey, if you're reading this WEB PAGE, then I guess you have that covered).

ICQ - I'll never forget hanging out, chatting on ICQ. Blew my mind back then.

Lots of DOS Games - Street Rod II, Pharoah's Tomb, Prince of Persia, Crosscountry Canada, and so many more
