Been feeling much better since being put on antidepressants. My panic attacks are less frequent and my mind is much clearer than it’s ever been as well as my mood swings are less frequent if not completely gone. I’m still not really motivated to do anything though, I started several podcasts a few weeks ago and I’ve just fallen out of them but I would love to go back to recording more episodes. My career seems a bit misguided at the moment, I’d love to learn python so I can start building out applications and utilizing more cloud native solutions for work but I’m just afraid it’s all going to be in vain. I’m burnt out of my career and need a change, but idk where to go for that change, my whole life has been one of three things: music, computers, or video games, and the only one I’ve been able to make a career out of is computers. Hopefully I can find something, but I’m just feeling kind of lost in my career and I need to course correct before it all falls apart.

I was just put on medication last monday, it's been an interesting change. I'm no longer getting irritable at little things, I'm not constantly stressed or worried, my frequent panic attacks seem to be less frequent (will see on that one), but overall it's been a good experience. I was hesitant to take medication because I didn't want it to change who I was, and I didn't want to use it as a crutch to getting better, but I can safely say without a doubt it was the right choice.

I’ve had two joy cons drift on me, thankfully I’m knowledgeable enough to swap them out with working sticks, but I still had to replace one because the ribbon cable was so pinched from the Nintendo factory that it broke the connection when I first opened it. I’m pretty careful when I work on hardware like this, and this is the first time I’ve broken a ribbon cable on the first try…Nintendo has horrible qc for their products these days.

I know this thread is old, but I need to vent. I’m not doing great. A very good friend of mine passed away a couple months ago and every time I think I’m over it I’m not or I have some massive feelings of hopelessness and despair. I’m so frustrated and angry all the time, and it’s effecting my professional life and my personal life. I get frustrated with my kids, my wife, my dogs, myself, everything, I’m just so damn frustrated. I’m so sick and tired of feeling this way, it’s not who I am and I know it’s not. I’m not a mean person, I’m not an angry person, but i feel like it all the time and it scares me. I’m scared to take anti-depressants because I don’t want to use it as a crutch to be the person I’m supposed to be, but I’m to a point that I almost don’t care about my convictions and I just want to be a functioning adult. I’ve always had to prove myself to everyone my entire life, no one has ever thought I could amount to anything and I’m never satisfied being content with what I do. I want to prove to people I can be better professionally and just improve my knowledge. I’m trying to learn python but I’m just not motivated enough to keep learning it, I just stop in the middle of learning because I get discouraged and I feel like it’s going to be a massive waste of time and I have so little time these days. I’m a successful IT professional that can afford a $250k home but my parents still compare me and my whole family to my brother and sister and every time I talk about work or accomplishments I just get a patronizing pat on the back and a comment about how my brother has done so much or my sister is doing great things with activist groups. It’s just so frustrating having to continuously prove myself every step of my life. I found a good group of friends on discord last year during the pandemic, and they’ve been my biggest support group and we’ve even done podcasts and game nights, but since the world started to slowly move back to normalcy we haven’t been online as much so that’s really disappointing. My brain has reached its breaking point or close to it and every day i think about just running and never looking back and getting away from reality but I know I have people that love me and depend on me. I am seeing a therapist and it’s been very good and I plan to bring all of this up with her, I’m just so tired of everything and needed to vent. So far my therapist, meditation, my friends on discord, and lots of Devin Townsend music has helped me to deal with all of these problems.

Edit: when I say running, I really mean running away from my problems like getting into my car and just drive and see where I go.

I wanted to get a general discussion going on the opinions of game streaming services. This is a potentially huge market and the big companies out there are really trying to break into this market. I personally use google stadia and love it, there is a slight amount of latency in movements but it feels no different than a larger dead zone to me.

I love the idea of game streaming as it brings more games to more platforms like Linux, macOS and mobile devices. I know the big argument against them is that you don’t own the games, but from my perspective, you don’t own the games on steam either, you own the right to play someone else’s game just like with Google stadia or Luna or xcloud. If you want to own an actual copy then you have to buy the game from a vendor like gog or itch.io.

So let me know your opinions on this market, do you think it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between and why? If you play on any of these services what are your thoughts and experiences? Has it worked well for you and do you see yourself using services like this in the future? I genuinely am curious as it’s a completely different mindset than what we’re used too and it can really disrupt a market that hasn’t seen proper innovation in years.

Because nvidia hasn’t updated the Tegra platform in years and there’s no real sign they’re going too in the near future. AMD would be the most cost effective but not the best for power requirements, arm would be the next best thing. Either way it’s clear nvidia doesn’t really care about updating tegra considering Nintendo is essentially making a bigger switch that only has QoL improvements and not a single internal hardware improvement.

Yep, amd just requires more power, but they’re getting better and making a larger switch is clearly Nintendo’s plan, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did go amd in the future. As for the m1, I have an m1 Mac mini base model and holy cow is that thing powerful. There’s no doubt it could play games at Nintendo’s specifications. For comparison I tried to configure a system76 nuc, I think they call them meerkats or something, but it’s about $100 more expensive than a mini for the same specs and it was still configured with terrible intel integrated graphics. The Mac mini is just insane power for the price so I could see Nintendo using a similar chip.

Well they have three other options that are probably just as good. Intel (maybe not quite as good), AMD (which is the ideal vendor), or pull an apple and design their own ARM SoC like the m1. Since the m1 style chip would cost way more than they likely would want to invest in, AMD would be the best choice especially considering they’re already in the console space. Nvidia isn’t the only vendor, they’re just the ideal vendor with a SoC design for high performance graphics.

Cyberpunk 2077 and watch dogs 2 on Google stadia, and final fantasy 14. Cyberpunk is still buggy and I’ve had my fair share of npc nonsense, but the story and the writing is top notch. That cdpr story writing is still present and it’s just awesome how everything has tied together in the short amount of time that I’ve played. Does it deserve some, if not all of the hate it gets? Yeah probably, but it’s still a really good game. Watch dogs 2 is a pretty good game, even with the whole hacker edgelord motif, it’s entertaining at the very least and the graphics are absolutely beautiful. Final fantasy 14 is probably one of the best mmos and best final fantasy games ever created and I’ve only scratched the surface after beating the ARR story.

I think the biggest takeaway from this, at least to me, is that they’re making all the premium real-money items available with in-game currency. It’s almost like they built a backup plan into the game because they weren’t sure it would be successful. I wonder how much WotC were involved in monetization decisions.

Well at the time the polygon people were a massive step up in graphics from 2d sprites. I agree with you for the most part, but my comment was more geared towards the fact that 7 was the first game in the series to use 3D character models and battles. By today’s standards, the original version of 7 looks kinda odd, but back then when it was released it was innovative.

Cyberpunk 2077, I know it has its controversies, but the story so far has been great and I just got through the full intro. I’m also playing on google stadia, and after I had my isp run a new drop to my home my experience has been nothing but flawless. I also picked up a game called judgement on stadia since it was $10 and I heard it’s really good. Seems like an odd game but I feel like it’s gonna be a good time. I also started my first true caster build in dark souls 3 so that’ll be fun. On top of all this I’m also trying to get through final fantasy 14 up through shadowbringers, but I’m only at the heavensward prepatch content and it’s still dragging. I know people say heavensward is where it gets really good so I’m trying to push myself to get there because I love final fantasy and mmos, this game always felt like the perfect match for me.

The only thing it’s got going for it are the environmental graphics and that’s only a piece of the game.

Well, I’ll be honest, I’ve kind of seen the writing on the wall for Solus for a while but it’s so easy to just pick up and use for a beginner which is why I recommend it so much. They’ve gotten quieter with each release of Solus and there’s no update in sight for their software center or budgie 11. I don’t think Solus will be around very much longer, and the fact that they started taking donations for it is kind of a telling sign for me. I really like the look and ideas behind pop_OS, and they’re starting to build their own gnome based UI with cosmic so we will see how well 21.04 performs. I might have a new distro to use if it works as well as they say.

Yeah you’re not wrong, but manjaro is in no way as user friendly as everyone says and wayland is in no way ready for gaming let alone steam play and proton. There’s something to be said for simplicity, and while it hasn’t been as good since Ikey left the project, it’s still a very good beginner friendly distro, and eopkg is one of the simplest package managers I’ve ever used. Solus plasma and mate are also a thing, so you can use that if you don’t like budgie/gnome.
