I kind of want to start this discussion because something I’ve always wanted to do is make a video game, even if it’s just a small indie platformer. I’ve even gone so far as to plan out an entire game universe timeline with fleshed out characters and factions, but I have no point of reference on where to start. So, how do you start this process and where are some resources to learn?

Currently just started nioh, it’s a refreshing take on the souls gameplay so it’s a welcomed change. I also have horizon forbidden west that I’m trying to power through and am currently grinding out power levels in destiny 2.
Horizon is an odd one though, it just doesn’t grab me like other games, and it’s funny because everyone praises it to no end but I’m just sitting here trying to figure out if there’s more than just pretty graphics and robot animals. The combat feels weak, the stealth is boring and not very intuitive, the survival aspect feels meaningless and the story so far is interesting but it’s just a continuation of a story I didn’t find all that interesting to begin with in the first game. On one hand I would love guerilla games to branch out, but I kind of just want them to go back to killzone, and then I remember the horrible ending of shadow fall and get annoyed.
I also want to go back to days gone at some point, it’s not the greatest of games but it’s a pretty well balanced survival game.

The best parts of the story ended with assassins creed 3. If you want to jump in to a modern game, origins is your best bet. I would personally say avoid odyssey unless you really love Greek mythology. Odyssey is fine for what it is but it has some of the worst level-gating I’ve seen in the entire series. Just makes me think they tried to force people to buy xp boosts and stuff. It got bad enough there were xp farm community missions in almost every zone. I’ve never played ragnarok but I can guess it will be the same as odyssey but in a Norse setting. Honestly, unless you really love the setting, these games have ran their course and should have ended the story properly years ago.

They do, there’s only about 5 of us in the US, but it’s an incredibly competitive market and I’ve been given an opportunity that not a lot of people get. I have a really good team and boss, and my boss is really trying to push me to learn new things to be competitive and knowledgeable in the field. I’m just afraid I’m not progressing as much as they’re expecting and it’s incredibly discouraging.

League of legends. I don’t know why I started playing this but I’ve always wanted to get into a moba. I couldn’t get any of my friends into dota2 as that’s my preferred moba, but they would play league so I started playing and it’s been fun if not frustrating. The lore of runeterra is amazing and really that’s what has drawn me into the game.

Deathloop - This game has surprised the crap out of me. It looked great based on trailers and gameplay I watched but I was not expecting such a fun experience. For those on the fence because of the multiplayer pvp, you can play the single player game without invasions all the way through, and it’s just a phenomenal game. Also I bought it in ps5, the adaptive trigger implementation is perfect, every gun just feels different to use, it’s great!

For me it’s the tone of the movies that break the interest. The trailers all seem to have super serious moments followed by some licensed music from the 70’s and 80’s with a little 90’s sprinkled around. A couple of laughs and a catchphrase and then that’s it. It’s like every trailer and in a sense the movies themselves were put together with machine learning and barely any effort. All for the sake of making them faster and more flashy. I think it was around when guardians of the galaxy vol1 came out, that movie really shifted the tone, like all of a sudden Disney had to use all of this licensed music for the next X number of years in their movies or pay a fine. Absolutely stupid and uninteresting.

Days Gone. Just got a ps5 horizon bundle and I’ve been playing days gone more than horizon or ratchet and clank rift apart. I love the survival-lite aspects of the game, making sure you have fuel for your bike, scavenging for ammo and scrap, the story isn’t anything mind blowing but the gameplay is very good. The world is also beautiful and I could just drive around the map on my bike for hours. If I had one complaint it’s the amount of missions for each faction could be increased, I need to get rank 2 in one of them so I can get better weapons but there are no more available missions for me and I have to wait until I progress in the main story for more.

Nobody cares in the Midwest. I’m vaccinated, my whole family had covid and no one was hospitalized thankfully. I realize it’s still a thing and will probably always be a thing, but at this point I feel like most people are just okay with taking the risks to live like they used too now and don’t really care for the safety of others, and to be completely honest I am at that point myself. It’s died down enough that it’s not a huge issue anymore, I’ve been around countless people less than 6 feet away and haven’t had any problems. If I were going to get a serious case of covid I would’ve had it by now. I do believe that I have some long covid symptoms though being that I have asthma. Every once in a while I’ll just have an asthma attack and need a rescue inhaler when I didn’t before, but that’s not a huge deal.

Kind of sucks that psnow is just being written off for pc players. Now they will have to pay extra for crap they’re never going to use because they either don’t want a console or just can’t find one available to purchase. I used psnow to play bloodborne for a little bit and it wasn’t terrible. It’s a shame really, Sony really ran with the game streaming tech for the longest time, and now that it’s really getting popular with xcloud, GeForce now and Luna they’re just putting it on the back burner.

Oh for sure, a ton of it is simply I grew up on Zelda. Played the original game, played Zelda 2, beat a link to the past, best ocarina of time, beat majoras mask, played through a large majority of wind waker, beat a link between worlds, beat skyward sword. The list goes on. Breath of the wild is an excellent open world game, but it’s an absolutely terrible Zelda game.

The thing about botw was they put so much focus on the open world aspects of the game that it absolutely destroyed what makes a Zelda game so fun for me, the dungeons and the story. They littered the world with horrible copy/paste shrines that you’re supposed to “find” to encourage exploration, but instead ended up with this boring slog of a gameplay loop where I only did the shrines I needed to do for the hearts and power ups and ignored the rest unless I needed a specific weapon.

Then there’s the weapon degradation…it is simply the absolute worst mechanic I’ve ever seen in a Zelda game. It was so bad I did a speed run to the master sword so I would at the very least have a weapon that doesn’t break only to find out even the master sword “breaks” by losing its charge for about 3 minutes. Not only that, the hylean shield of all things breaks…the most iconic shield in the series that requires you to beat a giant ogre or whatever they’re called underneath hyrule castle breaks. I was so fed up I found a spot on the map that has weapons that spawn every blood moon and just kept restocking my weapons. That’s not Zelda, that’s some bone headed Ubisoft gameplay nonsense shoehorned into a Zelda to provide artificial gameplay. There isn’t even a repair mechanic or way to grind out the strength of a weapon to improve durability! There were weapons and shields I didn’t even use simply because I didn’t want them to break and I wanted to use them at the most beneficial times, but those times never really happened so they never got used.

Finally the divine beast dungeons…omg the dungeons…Breath of the wild had the saddest excuse for Zelda dungeons and bosses I have ever seen. It felt like I was fighting the same boss for each dungeon just a slightly different way. The dungeons themselves are nothing more than really crappy giant digital rubics cubes. All the work was clearly put into the shrines in terms of puzzles and gameplay, but nothing actually went into the divine beast dungeons and the items needed to complete the dungeons or even the story elements of those dungeons, just copy/paste the same theme four times with slightly different bosses and there ya go, you have the botw divine beasts!

I get what they were trying to do, make a modern version of the very first Zelda game, but it’s like they built the world and forget it needed stuff to go in it, instead they chopped up the dungeons, scattered them about and then added the divine beasts as an afterthought. I won’t even get started with the ending…I’ll say this, when I beat skyward sword, I put the controller down and just gave it a standing ovation becaus the story and the gameplay were just phenomenal, when I beat breath of the wild I put the controller down and just said screw this game. I couldn’t believe they killed the essential gameplay elements that make a Zelda game, so I’m really hoping they put more effort into botw 2, because I’ll be extremely disappointed if they don’t.

I’ve been playing crysis 2 remastered on my series s. It’s a fun game even if it’s a bit linear, but man it’s one of the few games that really makes me feel like I’m some sort of super soldier bad ass. There’s nothing more satisfying than grabbing a ceph by the throat and throwing them against the wall to see their insides splatter like paint. I also bought cyberpunk on my series s. I’m a little annoyed it’s only 30fps, but it looks amazing upscaled to 1440p. Hopefully they can get a performance mode in on the series s.

I’ve recently installed Vivaldi to try out as a replacement. Seems to be alright, it’s made by the original developers of Opera and has many similarities. I haven’t researched the technology behind it very much, not sure if it’s just a chrome reskin like brave and edge or it’s own thing, but I’m still bouncing back and forth between Vivaldi and Firefox while I transition. Anyone have any reasons for me not to use Vivaldi?
