I’m disappointed they used a standard m1 in the iMacs and not an upgraded one. Just makes my purchase of an m1 Mac mini that much more satisfying. I’m going to guess they will announce the m1x or whatever they’re gonna call it at wwdc with iMac Pro’s and Mac pros, which makes sense.

I’ve been extremely happy with my m1 Mac mini though, I’m playing wow classic at 1440p 60fps on medium settings with max AA. Just tried diablo 3 out last night and it was a stuttering mess, but apparently that’s common with Big Sur right now and blizzard haven’t patched it for Big Sur yet. DotA 2 runs great, league of legends, csgo, all the big esports games run fine. Mac OS is also just really enjoyable to use, I can’t stress that enough. I work on windows machines every day at work and it’s so nice to sit down at my Mac and enjoy using the OS.

Rosetta 2 is also just straight up emulation magic. IMO emulation of instruction sets is going to be the future of modern computing. Amazon is moving all of their ec2 instances to arm graviton processors, and apple have proven an arm desktop is capable of proper workflows with x86/x64 emulation. I will say it now, as emulation of instruction sets improve, the more relevant arm will become. The m1 may be an overclocked iPad chip, but I think the more important thing to realize is that it’s something amd and intel have been trying to make for decades with apu’s, and they did it with an arm chip. I would personally love to be able to go to a micro center and purchase a motherboard and a SoC, nothing else, and get the same level of performance as a midrange desktop for the same price, but I understand some people like the flexibility of separate components.

I’m glad the correct decision was made, and while this was probably fueled by racism and the man really is terrible, i wish more news outlets would focus on the fact that a police officer murdered a man in cold blood for his own purposes. No matter the victim’s race, this man should be behind bars.

Guild wars 2, I’ve tried so many times but I just can’t get interested in the gameplay. The story is so bland, the cutscenes are essentially nonexistent, the gameplay is passable but it just feels soulless to me compared to guild wars 1. I played countless hours of guild war 1 and guild wars 2 just disappoints me every time.

I would think the next logical step in their strategy is build up enough of a catalogue to offer a subscription like gamepass. I could see them continuing with the free games, but offer an EGS premium pass for the exclusives on their store or a select group of top AAA games. Gamepass has proven this works very well and with multiple publishers going this route it would make sense for epic to jump on that business.Epic has always been very good at sustainability of their individual services, unreal engine and the unreal marketplace, fortnite and it’s skins and mtx’s, and most likely egs and it’s subscription plan.

You don’t seem to understand what I mean by client, I’m not talking about launchers. I’m going to stop right here though, you’re clearly set in stone as to what you think PoE2 is despite what the devs who actually make the game say. To me at this point PoE2 looks like a much better game than d4, but neither are out so neither of us knows exactly what is happening with either game.

So in order for you to call it a true sequel it would have to have its own client? Even if it had the same leagues, same micro transactions (even if they carried over) and same type of endgame, as long as it has it’s own client then it’s a true sequel? I guess I just don’t agree with that assessment. To me it’s a completely different game using the same client as the first game.

I’m inclined to believe the actual developers that have built a proper and positive reputation than a terrible opinion piece by a “games journalist”.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but this looks so much better than current PoE. The graphics are a huge step up, and some of the abilities have so much depth. Like the spear class and their sandstorm ability that builds up every time you use it and it explodes when you blink away. So much synergy in PoE2 abilities. I’m way more excited for this than diablo 4 and I’ve probably beaten diablo 3 and it’s xpac 3 times on 3 different platforms.

Solus is amazing. I’ve used everything from Ubuntu and mint to arch and manjaro and I always come back to SolusOS. It’s a really good and stable semi-rolling distro. I don’t think I’ve ever had any issues with it whereas I always have some kind of problem with dependencies and repos with the others. I know mint likes to be the distro that “just works” but it’s resource usage is so high compared with SolusOS, like 1.5GB of ram used compared to like 500-700MB on startup with SolusOS. Currently running the gnome version and it’s a little more taxing because of gnome but it feels so smooth to use. SolusOS also has the best implementation of KDE I’ve ever used, seriously, the guy running that version deserves so much credit. Give it a try if you want, I will say though that since Ikey (the creator) left, big feature updates have been scarce, but I get regular security and kernel updates fairly often. It’s also kinda based off of clear Linux, and eopkg is very easy to learn and easy to use.

Apple is in a great position with Apple Arcade. They could be the first company to successfully move mobile gaming into a full fledged console alternative with Apple Arcade and Apple TV. An apple pippin 2 type of of device is highly unlikely but I can definitely see an Apple TV arcade edition with expanded storage and an m1 or a14 chip packed into it. Pack a controller in with it and you have a winning combo, it could be a serious Nintendo switch competitor. Just imagine playing your games on your tv, then switching over to your iPhone or iPad to keep playing upstairs or in the next room. Cloud storage with iCloud would make the transition easier. This is the kind of innovation I’ve wanted in the gaming market, not bigger open world games filled with the same stuff from the past 2 or 3 games in the same series. This is also why I’m a huge fan of vr.

Microsoft had to find its niche in the modern video game world. They dominated the 360/ps3 generation, disrupted the market with the original Xbox, but before gamepass and the expanded as well as enhanced backwards compatibility they didn’t have anything notable other than halo, forza, and gears for the xbone. They tried to get into the Japanese market on 360 with blue dragon and lost odyssey but it didn’t really work. They really had nothing left and valve has been pushing steam play and vulkan so they have to either buy up vulkan/Linux devs (which they have been doing) and/or buy up the competition like they used to do in the 90’s (which they also are doing).

Microsoft is desperate, they need the pc market or it will move to Linux with valve and vulkan pushing it, and they need the console market to push hardware and subscriptions to gamepass and Xbox live. I don’t know how the streaming market is gonna work out, but they’re in an incredibly advantageous position with xcloud. They can essentially gain an entire player base overnight by releasing xcloud for windows 10 devices. I don’t know how the cloud market is gonna turn out, but one thing is for certain, you know Microsoft has ran out of ideas when they revert to old predatory business tactics of being the guy with the bigger bank account. I guarantee the bc stuff was probably Phil Spencer and the acquisitions are the shareholders doing. Microsoft is going to be the wildcard this generation, they really have the most to lose.

It’s really sad that game preservation isn’t prioritized when things like this happen. ROMs gave way to preservation through emulation, piracy provides preservation through cracks and community patches (I don’t condone software piracy). It’s really a horrible way for them to do business.

If Sony were smart they would release emulation software for the ps3 and vita to run on pc. If they’re not supporting the platforms anymore and removing the ability to purchase games then there is no reason to oppose emulation. The only thing I can think of is the practice of “remastering” games for new consoles, and frankly if nothing is being added to the game then it’s just a scummy practice to force you into purchasing the new console to keep playing the game you already own. I hate how entertainment media is treated like a throwaway commodity for the sake of benefitting shareholder wallets.

I like it, I’m on season 3 and so far it’s been very good IMO. Is it anything special? Nah, but it does a few things that not many shows do, like the fact that there’s no “warp drive” or some other plot device to provide space travel to humans. Just some guy buying up an old ship and tweaking it until it’s incredibly fast. There’s been a huge lack of quality sci-fi television and the expanse is a breath of fresh air. The only other shows i can think of are Star Trek discovery, Picard and the mandolorian. Discovery didn’t really intrigue me that much and Picard doesn’t have very good reviews, and mando well, it’s Star Wars so it’s entertaining but nothing too thought provoking. The expanse is just good sci-fi.

I’ve missed a lot of the older mmos growing up like Everquest and dark age of Camelot. What are some good older mmos to play that can still be enjoyed either as a single player or coop experience with friends that still have online and supported servers? Doesn’t have to have a massive player base or anything, it can even have just a few thousand players. I would also like to avoid WoW, I’ve had a fair amount of time in it and don’t have any desire to go back.
