Comment on Just finished reading The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings, and wondering what to read next in ~books

I tried the Silmarillion, but I'll admit that it's kind of a tough read. It's like a bible and it sort of drones on about lineage and things of that nature. I almost wish there was like, an abridged version with a lot of the "fluff" removed.
You might consider getting into even older Sci-Fi/Fantasy stuff. A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs is pretty awesome and there are sequels, part of his Barsoom series. From the same author, I really loved The Land That Time Forgot, the first in the Caspak trilogy. Also, H.G. Wells' The Time Machine is a pretty wild ride. Plus, these are all public domain now, so you can find them for free all over the place.

Comment on Would you rather lose all your money or all your data? in ~talk
GiraffeKiller My data basically IS my money. So, probably money. I'll bounce back from money loss. Might be a tough few weeks, but the data I have cannot be earned or recreated. My data basically IS my money. So, probably money. I'll bounce back from money loss. Comment on TikTok’s plan to take on Spotify and Apple Music in ~tech
GiraffeKiller Same, yeah. Not trying to make a life out of it. Mostly a hobby. Fun to be able to say you have albums and what have you out there. Lol.Same, yeah. Not trying to make a life out of it. Mostly a hobby. Fun to be able to say you have albums and what have you out there. Lol.

GiraffeKiller Not sure where the actual numbers are, but I can speak to my own experience. I average 0.012 cents per song with Spotify and 0.003 with Tiktok. The numbers are small, but that does make Spotify 4 times larger. Again, these may just be anecdotal numbers. I don't have a lot of Tiktok plays compared to Spotify, as well.

Comment on The IBM mainframe: How it runs and why it survives in ~tech
GiraffeKiller I agree! All the weird commands and programming. I kind of stumbled into this world years ago, very glad I did.I agree! All the weird commands and programming. I kind of stumbled into this world years ago, very glad I did.

Comment on The IBM mainframe: How it runs and why it survives in ~tech
GiraffeKiller I work with a few mainframes and yeah, we use these terminal emulators nowadays. They're pretty cool! The IBM Reflection one is my favorite, but BlueZone isn't too awful in certain settings.I work with a few mainframes and yeah, we use these terminal emulators nowadays. They're pretty cool! Comment on Self-taught guitar players: How did you do it? What do you wish you could go back and do differently when you were learning? in ~music

We had to learn some basic melodies. From there, I learned the "rest" through tabs, friends and some video tapes. Nowadays, I just sort of see a technique, try to learn it and take it from there. No real fuss.
How about I Mother Earth? My favorite song of theirs is Rain Will Fall, but they did a bunch of other great tunes, as well. Obvious names like BNL, LEN, Tragically HIP. If you're looking for something kinda wacky, check out Moxy Fruvous. King of Spain is my favorite of theirs. I have this Spotify playlist that I think Spotify auto-generated or something? Some neat stuff in there, if you want it here
