I got my group into Dungeon Crawl Classics! They loved playing through a level zero funnel, and the game's level of zaniness is perfect for a fun weekend game. Ever since the OGL debacle, I've become a bit addicted to buying different TTRPG rules sets and have tried a little bit of everything presented to me.

I've been watching Third Floor Wars' Forbidden Lands Streams (on YouTube and Twitch). Not only is their content engaging, but I find the interactions between the Game Master, Craig , and the players to a gold standard for how to lead a TTRPG session while allowing players to contribute to world building. On a similar note, the streams provide an example of how scheduling conflicts can lead to more varied, positive character develop as multiple players have stepped up to play the same character.

I am on book 8 of The Wheel of Time series, continuing my first attempt to read through the books after taking a yearlong break in the middle of book 7. Overall, I love the attention to detail, I find some of the characters relatable, and I enjoy the magic system; however, it has been a slog. The story is great, but it's full of tropes, repetitive actions, and extremely long descriptions that force me to fight to maintain my attention on the story. Getting halfway through book 7 last year, I set it down after feeling discontent with the pacing. Now, after a year of reading other incredible stories, The Witcher series, The First Law trilogy, the most recent Stormlight Archive books, and a handful of other titles, I am ready to push through. I will hopefully discover why people love Robert Jordan's fantasy epic. As a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson's work, I also know that if I can keep reading, Sanderon's writing awaits me at the close of the series.

I just picked up an X230 on eBay and I plan to upgrade it. I think I’m mostly just searching for a project to work on in my free time, so I plan add more RAM, add an SSD, coreboot the computer, maybe swap out the Bluetooth/WiFi card(s), get a nice Arch Linux setup going, and maybe do a keyboard swap/nitrocaster mod. Eventually I want to do some more development in my free time, but just fixing up a machine on which to do that work is a reward in itself.

Not to give anything away, but do the chapters involving the “accepted” ever pickup? Even when the events in those chapters should be exciting, I’ve grown bored reading them. I can’t tell if my boredom comes from the pacing of their chapters or the character’s internal conflicts. Half of the group’s choices and resulting actions seem like divine coincidence to move the story along.

Much like @ras I’m also working my way through the TWoT (The Wheel of Time) series. I’m currently on book 5, The Fires of Heaven, and I think I’ve started to hit the filler slowdown but, I’m doing my best to soldier through. Altogether, I’m on a bit of a fantasy kick. Prior to TWoT, I read through Brent Week’s Lightbringer series (so far), Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles (I need a conclusion!) and all of Sanderson’s Cosmere (so far). I’m hoping to transitions my reading habits over to some historical literature (if not historical fiction) if only to avoid appearing “under-read”. I’m open to suggestions if anyone can help me bridge that gap.

The original campaign of Critical Role is brilliant, but if you're having trouble with the backlog, you might want to start with their new campaign. They're only 19 episodes in and it's just as fun as the previous campaign. They occasionally make references to their past characters, like how Sam Riegel, who is playing Nott in the current campaign, doesn't have as high a charisma as his previous character Scanlan; however, it's not at all requisite to watch all of season 1 before watching season 2.

I've yet to branch out to other McElroy content other than TAZ and Monster Factory, but I'll look into giving the other shows a go. My only worry is that my life will be consumed by McElroy shows and I won't have time to watch/listen to anything else, although, that might be a happy fate!

Also, while I agree that TAZ is rough for the first three or four episodes, who could forget Magic Brian or Justin's musings that brought out Takko's character voice.

Both of those podcasts are incredible. I got into The Adventure Zone 'Balance' last summer and spent about two months binging to get caught up. The McElroy's are incredible. I was initially skeptical about 'Amnesty', but my fears have been put to rest and I love it thus far! As for Critical Role, I followed the webcasts for a while and recently discovered the podcasts... needless to say, I've been binging the new season. All the crew does a great job I'm often dumbfounded by how well Matt Mercer DMs. How can he have such an amazing character range while simultaneously keeping on top of the story?
