    I'm putting together a panel for Tech Worker's Coalition for SXSW 2020 and the focus of my panel is on tech contracting.

    Specifically we're looking to speak on the issues of labor rights and how they are effected by contracting.

    Anybody interested or have experience with the subject?

    In case I forget to check Tildes (I joined and then I always forget to check it) my email is aslan@jackalope.tech

    We've also got a couple of other panels brewing on the subject of unionization in tech and another on the recent controversies between tech workers and their companies over social issues (such as google walkout over sexual harassment, wayfair's walkout over selling beds to ICE etc)

    She's also done some crappy stuff with prosecuting non violent weed offenders etc if I remember.

    Art IS technology. Technology IS art. It's a common but false dichohonomy in our culture. But look at the root of the words.

    Art comes from the latin word for "skill" while technology comes from the greek word for "the study of skill".

    That's all art is. It's skillfulness. Something is Artful when it's skillful, well done, beautiful. Technology has been divorced in our minds from art because of the processes of the industrial revolution and capitalism. We now think of technology as a tool of industry, but this isn't really it's natural state.

    Man I really hope people who knock it off with that when the times comes. Biden is.... like only funny and inspirational to waspy people who it reminds them of their cool uncle. He's got like zero...

    Warren on the other hand is a Texan and stuff. She's got a sort of LBJ quality to her I think.

    Seconding the indoor rock climbing! The social aspect of it is also really nice. It helps get me out of my normal bubble. You wouldn't happen to be in Austin would you? I just ask because it SUCKS...

    I have to go to the gym. Working out at home just doesn't work for me. Also when I'm working from home it's really good to get out of the house. So one of the things I do is I go to a climbing...

    I have to go to the gym. Working out at home just doesn't work for me. Also when I'm working from home it's really good to get out of the house. So one of the things I do is I go to a climbing gym. It's more casual than going to a regular gym and they have a super dope co working area filled with nice furniture and sunlight. It's worth it for the mental health benefits alone.

    If you have a climbing gym in your area I highly recommend checking them out!

    This is def not a huge issue in the shorterm as many people here have said, but if the machine is creating new matter then it could be in the long term, by increasing the mass of the planet. But...

But the rate of creation is so slow that... actually I don't think that would be that big of an issue. The real issue would be if each cookie made it's only little cookie that made it's own little cookie. Then you'd have an exponential increase in cookies. But at a linear progression it actually probably wouldn't be that bad.

    Hmmm... who is to say that it can't create matter? The hypothetical doesn't specify how the machine makes cookies after all. But yes, I think you're right, if the machine is transporting or making...

    But yes, I think you're right, if the machine is transporting or making the cookies it's using some underlying mechanism which you could perhaps use to other ends.
