Komi can't communicate is my go-to suggestion in this case.
Light-hearted slice of life anime that follows the life of a beautiful girl that has trouble communicating and making friends, because many consider her distant and snobbish when she is only very VERY shy.

It has a lot of over the top, very funny character and is really a pleasure to watch.

Where do you draw the line on fanservice?

That's an interesting question. I'd say that I don't like "gratuitous" fanservice, but to varying degrees. Mostly it depends on wether I like the overall story and how much the fanservice takes me out of it. It's also connected for me to the bigger problem of the extreme sexualization of the teenagers and in my case it gets worse the older I get: in my teen years I wouldn't had bat an eye for things that now, in my 40's, would make me feel gross.

Take for example Yoko in Gurren Lagann, there's no reason for her to be in a bikini top the whole time, but it's only an insignificant part of the whole BIGGER story (and it's counterbalanced by Kamina being shirtless the whole time).
Or Nami and Robin in One Piece, it sorta makes sense for them to be the "sexy ladies" given the setting and their characters (even if Nami is way too much on the younger side for my tastes).
Or Fujiko in Lupin the 3rd (yeah, I'm old), being alluring is an integral part of what she is.

Fire Force's Tamaki is a weird one: while being absolutely in the "too much" field, Okubo integrates it in the overall story, especially when developing her character. It's a weird mix of exaggerated on purpose, leaning on the 4th wall and character development. Somehow it makes sense in context, but only if you get to the end of her whole character arc.

Thanks for closing the parenthesis! And thanks for the list!❤️ Of those I've only watched Odd Taxi (loved it, but it's not for everyone) and I just started Baccano. Looks like I have a lot to watch!

One Punch Man is a must, very funny deconstruction of the superhero genre with a gorgeous art.

    Some other random suggestions:

    • Dungeon Meshi: it's a cooking manga... In a dungeon! The premise is a little ludicrous, but it's really worth your time. The manga has ended a few weeks ago and it's scheduled to get an anime adaptation from Studio Trigger.
    • Komi can't communicate: very funny, very cute, very sweet, with quirky (VERY quirky) characters. Slice of life about a beautiful girl that is very shy, so has troubles making friends. This is comfort food in manga format.
    • Fire Force: from the author of Soul Eater. This is a shonen about firefighters with fire-based powers. The power scaling gets ridiculous on a cosmic level. It takes a little to get it's footing, but once it starts it's a wild ride

Anyway, putting in my support for DanDaDan too! The art is great, the story flows well and the characters are really well characterized. It can get a little fanservice-y at times, especially in the beginning, but honestly I still have to find a series that doesn't rely on a little fanservice from time to time (if you know about any good one, please let me know!

    Ayreon - The Human Equation

    Genre: Progressive Metal

Ayreon is a project created by Arjen Anthony Lucassen in 1995. He's basically a one-man band, he writes and plays every song in his albums, with an ever-changing huge group of guests singers for each record.
Every album in the project's discography is a concept album, most of them connected.

The Human Equation is probably the more approachable (but you should still try to listen to the others!) and is a great showcase of Lucassen talent. Some of the singers in the album are familiar voices for those who listen to metal and all of them put a lot of passion in playing their parts.
As many of Lucassen album, this one talks about a journey, specifically inside the protagonist's mind, exploring his relationships, his joyous moments, his fears and traumas, facing his emotions as if they were actual persons, trying to come to terms with his life.

I remember hearing one of the songs on the radio (Loser) and being immediately captured by the music and the story it was telling, so much that I bought the album as soon as I could and it's been a gateway drug for the rest of Ayreon's work!

You want to make lots of money, write a decent script and follow it

Exactly. For the example you made at the beginning, it's just lazy writing doing what they did with Janet. How long does it take to tell your family

Spoilers for Quantumania "Hey, in the quantum realm there's this guy Kang, he's a genocidal time traveling monster that is so bad that's been trapped there by his other multidimensional selves. Don't try to open portals to the quantum realm or you may give him a way to escape and wreak havoc"
? Your daughter and son-in-law helped saving the universe from Thanos, aren't they able to assess the severity of such a threat? Also, I just realized, weren't they making experiments with the quantum realm at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp?

Barbie made a lot of money not only because of the marketing or the big name, but because they wrote a great script that worked with the rules it set. AND it played with the viewer's expectations, sometimes subverting them, sometimes fulfilling them, but never treating the viewer like an idiot.

Duel blew my mind the first time I saw it. I was already a Spielberg fan, so a little biased, but to think that such a young filmmaker could do so much with so little was amazing to me. The small scope, the palpable tension, an inanimated object that becomes a real, threatening antagonist... A little masterpiece.

Am I aware that there are ants outside? Sure, even if I don't search for them, because usually there are many traces of them being there; but if I don't se a anthill or ants going in and out a hole in the wall I wouldn't even know.

At the stage our civilization is we're probably less noticeable than an ant colony in midwinter, you may find it if you knew it was there, but would otherwise go unnoticed to most.

    About Dexer:

    Spoiler:

Make it end 5 minutes earlier and you get a great somewhat acceptable ending.

Dexter disappears with Debra's body in the storm, while Harrison and Hannah go away together. While not perfect you tie all the loose ending, keeping it vague enought that the viewer can fill the gaps in what may or may not happen next.

And most of all, no lumberjack ending...

Grampa used to live above Campo Testaccio, Roma's historic footbal field, so it's basically a family tradition.
Being a fan is a life of suffering, but it makes the (few :P) victories all the sweeter!

Well, I basically learned to read thanks to Mickey Mouse stories, so that's an easy answer for me. Here in Italy we have "Topolino", that is a weekly Disney magazine that publishes (since 1949!) mostly new stories created by very talented Italian artists. My family had a lot of copies, gifted or borrowed from friends and family.

But the first comic that I owed and that is still in my heart was a collection of John Byrne's Superman, the reimagining of Post-Crisis character. This image is what comes to my mind first every time I think about Superman, and for me those are still the greatest Supes stories ever written (yeah, rose-colored glasses, I know)
