I was in Portland last April, and Powell's is indeed unbelievably amazing. But I want to also shout out Parallel Worlds, which was my 2nd favorite bookstore of the trip, and would've been far and away my favorite in any other city (maybe not Minneapolis, Moon Palace and Uncle Hugo's are hard to beat). They're entirely SFF + related genres, and if you discount the romantasy picks that they can't not sell, pretty much their entire collection was books I either read and loved, or seemed interesting. It's not huge, but their decisions on what to stock are on point. I would definitely go there if you're looking for speculative fiction!

Scientists aren’t certain why, but they’ve proposed several reasons, including diet, genetics, social connection, purpose and daily physical activity, especially on hills and stairs.

This might end up being my first Discworld reread. I read several of them in middle school and enjoyed them then but I remember almost nothing and I'm sure rereading would be a brand new experience, I've just been putting it off because I usually don't reread much. But this might be the right excuse!

I'm really not a movie person but I'll contribute my 2 cents which is that I'm SO GLAD neither of the original songs from Wicked 2 got nominated. They were both fine songs in a vacuum but when you compare the glorious orchestration that the rest of the musical has to the thin accompaniment of the new songs, the new ones just fall so flat. I didn't really expect them to not suck so I can't say I was disappointed, but I certainly didn't think they were noteworthy.

    16-9=6+(10-9)=6+1=7

Disclosure I didn't watch the video (can't do audio atm) but that is not borrowing, Borrowing is saying "ok 6-7, no we can't do that because 6-7 is negative so take a 10 away from the next column and change that to 16-7 now we can do 16-7=9 and yes we do just need to know this"

    eg

    26-7= 20 + 6 - 7 = 10 + (10 + 6) - 7 = 10 + 16 - 7 = 10 + 9 = 19

obviously you normally write in columns but I'm not gonna try to format that

So, after procrastinating a while, I bought an xcover 7 on amazon yesterday (so I can return it if I have to). Have not started setting it up yet but I can already tell it's way too big and heavy, I can't use this phone.

Do you know if it's possible to get a lower-capacity and lighter-weight battery?

Otherwise I think I'm going to have to start over in my search with a single priority of "must not be bigger or heavier than my current phone" and everything else is compromise

    • Jan: The Ministry for the Future: Read this, didn't love it for many of the same reasons as other Tildeans
    • Feb: Born a Crime: Incredible!!!
    • March: Hyperion: Excellent, but the series does not hold up. My ratings were 5, 4, 3, 2 for the four books
    • April: Elder Race: Read this years ago, remains my favorite novella of all time
    • May: A People's Future of the United States: Skipped
    • June: A House with Good Bones: Skipped
    • July: The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store: Read this and loved it!
    • Aug: Cat's Cradle: Skipped
    • Sep: Stories of Your Life and Others: Not my favorite
    • Oct: The Poisoner's Handbook: Read this a bit late and enjoyed it a lot! Wasn't quite what I expected but learned some wild things about Prohibition in particular
    • Nov: We are Legion (We are Bob): Read this last year, it was okay, not my favorite series

Overall, I read a bunch of books that weren't really on my radar or if they were they were endlessly pushed off my TBR, and I think for all of them either I enjoyed it or I thought there was interesting discussion, for a lot of them both! This has been a great book club!
