Mines pretty simple but has gone through multiple evolutions.

It all started out when I was given the nick name JRizo by one of my best friends as a kid who tragically passed away some years back. We were kids and we thought it was cool riffing off my first and last name.

I added 2016 after it when using if for usernames but then soon shortened it back to JRizo and then made the slight change to JRiso to more accurately represent my last name.

Eventually after years of using it I reduced it down to just Ris. The first three letter of my last name. Unfortunately not every site allows three letter handles so in some places I use TheOriginalRis Or just my first and last name together.

I like it because it is short and simple, and always reminds my of my late great friend.

One thing that I am wondering about is (assuming that I am understanding this correctly, which I could very well not be), is if it would disable connections to other domestic networks causing you to no longer communicate with people on another carrier. For example Verizon to AT&T. Since they are technically "out of network" do they not use SS7 to communicate anyway?

This seems a really important point that I didn’t fully appreciate until you said it. I wonder if making roaming opt-in at the network level (not the device level) could help?

Would disabling roaming at the device level help with any of this? I mean it wouldn't disable it at the network level, so the spoofing part would obviously not be affected, but maybe some of the other attacks like geolocation no longer work since the device would not need to relay that information causing the attack to fail? Or maybe it wouldn't do anything because the attacks are not dependent on the device itself but rather the service. If that is the case then maybe it would even make it worse to disable on the device level somehow.

TBH I'm just lacking motivation and will power to do what I know needs to be done. I went hard for several years and was doing great and then I just lost a lot of my motivation. I thought I just got burnt out but its been more than enough time to recover from that.

Like simple things that I want to get done to better my life and situation I have no motivation to do and keep putting off. I'm not sure why. It doesn't make sense to not have motivation to do the things that you know have to be done to improve you're life and move forward... but here I am haha.

    Life's interesting.

I went to university for computer science up until the pandemic started. It was great. I remember working on so many projects that were basic but a lot of fun and others that were a lot more complex but still fun and rewarding. For example, one of the staples of beginner projects is Conway's Game of Life. I remember building that in HTML, CSS, and Java Script. One of my other favorite projects was a website for alum to visit to see alumni news and events, and also to lookup other alum.

What were your favorite projects when learning to code?

My monitor has started to blink too.

I know for a fact that there were a few BIOS updates released since I bought my laptop that I never got around to installing, (I've never done it before and need to find some time to be able to do some research to make sure I do it right.) but I think I can rule it out since it never has an issue with the other monitor.

I still need to get another DP cable to narrow down the problem. Just don't have the time or money at the moment haha.

The dock I purchased was tested with my laptop and people have said that it worked great but as you know from what you said they can do all kinds of crazy things.

I'll have to buy another DP cable and test it out. The laptop is around a year old. I'm thinking that the docking station may to blame as well. Im going to do more testing this weekend.

I'm using a thunderbolt dock to connect to my Samsung display with Display Port, and to my HP display with HDMI.

It is wrapping around in the sense that when the image slides to the left leaving a blank black screen until its completely off the video player and then starts back at the right side again and repeats but very fast. It never does it on the HP display connected to my Dell dock via HDMI. But its only in the video player. So if its full screened the whole screen does it but if its just windowed its just the windowed video player.

My laptop is a framework laptop so I can replace the ports at will via modular expansion cards. Right now it has 3 USB-C's, an HDMI port and a 3.5mm jack. but i only have my dock plugged in and everything is connected to that.

Its at random so next time I see it happen I'll try an open a video file in VLC and see if it happens there too along with some of the other things you mentioned.

Is there a way to disable commenting on a post that you created that you no longer wish to keep up with?

For example I normally post a topic when I'm having an issue and am looking for advice or ideas. Once I have solved the issue or delt with the problem I really don't want to keep up with the post.

I try to say thank you to everybody and explain that it has been solved. But at the same time I don't want somebody to feel ignored because they didn't see that the issue is resolved and I did not respond to their comment.

It would be cool to have like a close post feature or a "Solved" tag maybe so that the post is visible for people who have the same issue to search and find answers but disables or gives a warning for commenting.

I am still relatively new to Tildes so I could be missing something or not aware of a feature.

    Browser: Brave Browser

    Issue:

Regardless of the website that I am on (I.e. Youtube, Twitch, Rumble, Netflix, etc.) my video stream will at random and only on my Samsung display will start to slide repeatedly to the left. The best way that I can describe it is to imagine taping a picture to a treadmill and setting to a highspeed setting. The image will move along with the treadmill. That's what the video feed does at random for some reason.
    • If I move it to the HP display it stops.
      • sometimes when I move it back it continues and sometimes it doesn't.
    • If I try and capture it via the built in screen recorder in windows it doesn't show up in the recording.

Have any of you had this experience or know what is causing this?

P.S. Thank you in advance for whoever corrects my tags and title which seams to happen evetime I post. I'm still trying to learn the correct way to post here on Tildes.

    ***EDIT***

All sorts of stuff is going on now...
    • My monitor also blinks now and then video starts to slide
    • I've only gotten it to reproduce on Brave Browser.
    • I put Firefox and Brave side by side when it started happening. When I clicked on the Firefox browser it stopped. Then when I clicked on to Brave browser it started again... Like WHAT!?
    • With the browsers side by side the video on the brave browser started to slide again but now slid across both browsers...
    • Every time I try to record it stops... It's mocking me at this point.

The end result was a surface pro. Its a Jack of all trades type of system and it gives the ease of knowing that it should run just about anything they require. She was able to get a good deal on it too with the pen and keyboard included.

I'm normally the tech guy in my social circles and can make good recommendations but its been a few years since I was a collage student so when one of my associates who is about to start her college journey as a dental student asked me for my recommendation, I wasn't sure exactly what to recommend.

My first thought was an iPad paired with an Apple Pencil and a Logitech portfolio case. This was because she mentioned lots of note taking and drawing. I figured that option gave her the most bang for the buck and versatility to accomplish any tasks necessary while also having longevity to get her threw the next few years. As for what model, I haven't really figured out just yet.

My main drawbacks here are that iPads still don't fully replace a Mac or PC. I don't know what software her college will require and while many schools are modernizing some are still not quite there yet and may require specific software that can't be run on iPads.

Of course the solution to that problem is to purchase a MacBook as well. That should handle most any applications and maybe make longer essays and research papers easier to get through. Ideally that would be option number one, but obviously that's very expensive, and while I do not know what her and her families fiscal background is like, I think its safe to assume that in this economy, even with educational discounts, that's not the most feasible option for most students.

On the other hand just purchasing a MacBook instead of an iPad would work but not be as versatile since apple has yet to produce a 2in1 like the Microsoft Surface. Speaking of 2in1's I thought about the Microsoft Surface and even some Samsung 2in1's with their s-pen equivalent, but longevity has never really been Windows or Chromes OS's strongpoint. Not to mention I really am not a fan of Chrome OS and its many limitations. I know there is a lot of schools that use them, but they also tend to end up unfixable and unsupported.

Again... its been a minute since I was a student, so maybe there are things that I am not thinking about or realizing. I told her I would think about it and come back with some recommendations so I figured I'd ask here for some real life experience while I do some research on the subject.

    EDIT

    • Her major is dentistry
    • She curranty has an iPhone
    • I'll ask her to check her schools requirements
    • I'll reply to everyone soon, I just wanted to make those things known for everyone.
    • Thanks for all the input so far!

My cousin writes books, so I built her a website where she can post the book cover and a description along with links to buy. She has a dashboard where she can upload all of that information that will be displayed on the front end of the site. Everything works and it's (mostly) scalable. I just need to add user accounts so that only thr right people can log in.

Simple I know, but I went to uni for compsci and haven't done any since. I feel like I'm starting back from square one.
