Hey, late to the party! I'm Sam, and I generally just chill under the umbrella term "queer," but I guess if I had to label my gender, I'd pick nonbinary. I'm currently working in a very non-accepting country, but I'm hoping when I settle down somewhere, I can start thinking about what (if any) transitional steps I'd like to take and get into therapy. I don't think HRT is right for me, but I have a lot of dysphoria around my chest, so I'd really like top surgery. I'm out to some of my friends, and am trying to work on coming out to more of them as it seems appropriate. I'm in the depths of the closet with my parents and family, and I think it'll probably stay that way for the foreseeable future. I know them, and they're definitely not the parents who will suddenly become accepting when it's their kid. But, hey, at least I've got some great friends who support me!

I really like Fall Out Boy's new music. I didn't like their stuff when it was really popular, around middle school-age for me, but when they released American Beauty/American Psycho, it really roped me in, and I've enjoyed everything they've done post-hiatus, with only a few songs that I like pre-hiatus. It's definitely the playlist on my phone that I don't play when someone passes me the aux cord, but I really wish I could, haha.

I think that, much like Chicken Pox, it's a mix of both a necessity for inoculation and, barring that, getting it as a child rather than an adult. Obviously the best way to fight this, in my opinion, would be through showing children things like this in a controlled situation, so that they can understand that nothing will happen, that internet monsters are just as fake as monsters under the bed. This would be the inoculation. However, if this isn't possible, or if their parents just neglect to do it, then it's much better to fall into something like this as a child where, barring some horrific tragedy, they can't do too much damage. As opposed to an adult, who can be frightened into hurting other people and/or hurting themselves, not only physically but mentally and, in the case of a scam-type situation, financially.

Right now I've got Music for Chameleons sitting next to me, though I haven't picked it up in a while. I really love the style of Capote's writing, and every time I pick it up I end up sitting for half an hour straight because I can't put it down. I also have started The Martian Chronicles/Марианские Хроники. It's one of those two-languages-facing-each-other copies, in both Russian and English. I love Bradbury's work in general, so this is a great opportunity to read an author that I love while also practicing my language skills.

I'm a chronic starter and stopper when it comes to books, though it's something that I've turned into. Hopefully I'll break that before it becomes too much of a habit though.
