"Useful" might be a strong word. And no there's something about the shrines that is available immediately and will be of great assistance. Look at the large trees too.

Shadow of the Colossus is in the running for my favorite game ever. If you haven't yet, poke around the save shrines. Also, did you know you can leap from Agro and grab onto the birds that fly along side sometimes? (And take breaks to explore. Following the light isn't going to take you to every bit of the land, and the quiet stretches in between can be beautiful.)

We've got a pretty good understanding of the geologic timeline of Earth and there's absolutely zero evidence of complex pre-life life. Like, there wasn't enough time on not-molten Earth for an entirely distinct form of life to evolve and develop sapience before being supplanted by a new biosphere, let alone in such a way as to completely erase all sign of such beings.

Tad Williams' Of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy is everything I want out of fantasy adventure. A scullion boy, an orphan taken in by the head maid of a castle, has lofty dreams of being a brave warrior. The castle's magician has a fondness for the boy and takes him as an apprentice, beginning by teaching him to read and write. Meanwhile, the king's eldest son has been consorting with a mysterious advisor and rumors of near-forgotten evils drift down from the north. There's action! Intrigue! A bunch of appendices for all the names, languages, and other beautiful nonsense fitting an epic quest across many lands! (Plus he's written more in the same setting if it suits your fancy.)

I also really like his "Shadowmarch" series (another fantasy), as well as "Otherland" (a sometimes weirdly prescient VR dystopia science fiction). All of them are four-book-trilogies and worth every page.

Timbuk2 makes a damn fine product. I've been mistreating my messenger bag for like 15 years (I hauled water with it on a camping trip once!) and it's just starting to show wear. Wouldn't literally hold water anymore but definitely keeps my stuff dry and contained out in the rain. I want a new one but it's hard to justify when the one I have still does the job.

Because of money and/or political power. I don't know what the situation is exactly in the UK but the American dairy industry benefits from bonkers subsidies and loads of PR.

Unless I'm missing something there's no data there about type, volume, or length of exposure. Looking elsewhere: ingestion is bad, and it's pretty alkaline so it will damage tissue with contact over time. Pretty standard precautions seem to curtail the risk. (Gloves, goggles, mask if handling. Keep away from kids) US regulatory laws tend to favor letting people make their own safety decisions unless the substance is used in drug or bomb production, or presents an ecocidal danger.

Sincere. And those hazards apply to a lot of cleaning chemicals. Don't get it in your eyes, (potentially)pregnant women use extra caution. Borax helps with grease stains, hard water, and as a mild bleaching agent. And it doesn't stay in the clothes.

(And you have to mix it with jam or similar to trick ants into eating it.)

I'm a lot more worried about the oven cleaner than anything in the laundry room.

Borax is great as a laundry additive, and it's an effective ant poison! It's a lot safer than the can of acetone in my shed or even the chlorine granules for the hot tub.
