    This a Binaural Recording (wear your headphones) of a Waterfall on the Middle Black Clough, Peak District. The water flow changes and appears different therefore doesn't appear the same on recurrent visits. This is not the biggest most photographed part of Middle Black Clough but the part which I find the most relaxing.

    I also have fascination with binaural audio. I studied psychoacoustics (the psychology of hearing) at University. A binaural head is very expensive so I have been experimenting with making my own....

    A binaural head is very expensive so I have been experimenting with making my own. You need a stereo matched pair of condenser mics.

    I have a YouTube Channel where I have been upload some Binaural Recordings. Binaural recording is a method of recording sound that uses two microphones, arranged with the intent to create a 3D stereo sound sensation, often a dummy head is used.

    I usually record Nature sounds:

    But this week I decided to do something different and record Sounds of Traffic - M60 Motorway. This didn't go as planned. I was hoping to get a much longer recording but my first attempt was interrupted. Turns out if you stand on a bridge over a motorway holding a dummy head people call the police. So I was joined on the bridge by a police officer and after giving him a tour of my recording rig he radioed to others to "stand down".

    In the future I hope to record / create more Virtual Train Journeys. I want improve on my first attempt, when I was in New York, I recorded the Subway from Time Square to Central Park. Due to the current global pandemic public transport isn't great so I'm going to have to wait before I can do those types of recordings again.

    From that list of AV-specialized distros it seems they are either based around Debian or Ubuntu. How much tweaking have you done with your Gentoo setup?

    I'm very interested. I would like to move away from Logic and Pro Tools. Would like to try open source alternatives. What distribution of Linux would be best for running a DAW?

    With most other binaural recordings, the microphone or dummy head are usually stationary. This recording was challenging as I tried to replicate a person getting on and off a train, therefore the recording rig was moving.

    The subway was very crowded when I was doing this recording. People are really good at absorbing sound and this maybe the reason why it sound different from what you have imagined. Listening to this is not a multi-sensory experience and the sound would be understandable with some visuals.
