Yeah, I know. It's one of the most memorable reads of my childhood... for years I'd look at random jewelry with wishful suspicion and I'm fairly sure the series had an impact on my adult mindset.

I like this. Autocomplete (or a list/dropdown of recognized tags below the text entry box) while allowing the user to specify a custom one.

Periodically, the system could autocorrect typos or flag unknown tags for review by someone with a sufficiently high trust level.

I love these, and as a high school teacher (not in the US, lol) I give them away as prizes for random challenges. Zen Magnets were the best quality before the ban and I'm so stoked they've survived. I have a large amount of gift stock but for a while I explored other suppliers... good enough for newbs and "Huh, that's neat!" people but next to useless for complex designs.

Ohhh yeah. This. I loved programming as a kid... then I started working. I switched to teaching and used my coding background to make my job easier (MUCH easier to the point that people think I have nothing to do most of the time as I'm always messing about... building rapport) and I'm a very happy chap now, but I never recovered that passion for coding.

I did the same thing recently with drone flying. I loved it, got pressured by the school to make a club which came with responsibilities and pressure and I got de-passioned again. That, at least, only lasted a year so I'm recovering fairly well.

Dude. This is usable in many, many industries. If you're not whooped about that as an actual career, use it to get yourself in the industry while you polish up on certificates and courses so that you can transfer to another department or whatever. A safer play would probably be to focus on said certs while freelancing digital marketing online with a focus towards clients that are in the fields you're interested in - get those jobs, keep the contacts.

These days, the number one value of a degree is as an indicator that the individual has the qualities required to actually get one in the first place. Build an art portfolio, pad your CV with certs and freelance work. That combo should at least get you noticeable enough for interview when you're ready... remember those contacts you kept? Yeah.

The pacing was a bit off - I suspect that was due to the amount of world building that was needed. Considering everything else, I'm giving it a pass and looking forward to season 2.

This makes a lot of sense to me. A large part of your driving ability is determined by the vehicle. It stands to reason that switching to a new body will result in different responses - for a start, your eyes will see differently, your nose will smell differently and your muscles will respond differently. This won't be an instant transition - quite a lot of physiotherapy would probably be needed, for a start.

A third person, though? Perhaps, eventually. More like changed, not totally different. My morals and tastes aren't going to be affected.

Altered Carbon explores this idea somewhat. Your consciousness resides on a chip which can be implanted in any 'skin', which is the term used to describe everything else. If you go to prison, only your chip is incarcerated - your body is put into a first-come-first-serve temporary loaner pool for those whose original bodies have become unusable for one reason or another and they can't afford a replacement. Near the beginning of the series there's a super brief scene where a family reunites with their young daughter who is currently inhabiting an ~80 year old body. The protagonist is a veteran from a war that took place centuries ago and the 1% are all immortals with access to clones.

Pretty sure that was me. I don't follow politics and I'm unfamiliar with political labels - especially those in the West as I'm firmly planted in Indonesia. Besides, I have beliefs (mostly hidden in fear of lynching) that are left, right, imperial, royal, conservative, liberal...

Spaghetti describes what I see when it comes to politics and bureaucracy in general... plus, as an ordained priest of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster perhaps I was influenced somehow.

There’s also contextual and regional expertise. An experience teacher in the US has a lot of skills that can’t be transferred to the UK, never mind Thailand.

Definitely a nice option but I’ve actually grown to appreciate being able to read the message while eating lunch, then come back to respond at a more opportune time.

I likely am being over dramatic, but I'm aware of it and it's partly why I started this topic. You're right in that a lot of headline endangered species are 'awwwww' inducing, but, as @Zeerph pointed out, some species are critical for ecosystems and their loss would trigger a chain reaction that would be somewhat vexing.

To solve that we'd need a post scarcity society. I feel we're on the verge, but is it soon enough? Possibly, but famines and climate migrations will strike first.
