    OMG.

I'm working on my first garden ever. Now that things are growing (holy shit, I grew a thing!), I'm realizing my tiny little raised bed is probably woefully over-planted. I mean, I knew I had too many plants to begin with (hence the potted plants). Now I am nervous.

For anyone noticing all of the yard around the raised bed...

-We live in a city where contaminants are likely in the soil, and

    -The soil is like clay

Any (less new) gardeners out there? Do I need to build another raised bed, purchase some more dirt and transplant half of what is planted?

Spacing looks just fine to me! Aside from the caged tomatoes, what is in there? Ayyy, is that a square foot garden? If not, you have the perfect setup for one and I'll happily PM you relevant...

Ayyy, is that a square foot garden? If not, you have the perfect setup for one and I'll happily PM you relevant pages from Mel's book to help. He debunks the myth of plants six inches apart and beds a foot apart guidelines derived from commercial farming.

It's not a square foot garden. I'm surprised I didn't come across that in my research, though! It's just a 4' x 8' raised bed made with found wood (I asked the owner of the home where I saw the wood on the curb if I could have some).

To the left of the tomatoes are red carrots, then red onions, then acorn and butternut squash, cucumber, garlic chives, cabbage, rosemary, Brussels sprouts, bok choy and cantaloupe. In the pots: red lettuce, two different types of green beans, bell peppers and another heirloom tomato plant. I did a lot of research on what to plant where for ideal growth and mutual protection from pests. I think this bed is going to be bursting!

I've very recently started miniature photography - models of tiny people with regular sized objects or weird settings.

Interesting, where was the middle one with the turtle-looking thing taken?

Got into board shortening a couple years ago been slowly accumulating tools and skills, mostly on the weekends that are not below zero. Among other things I build a simple Leopold bench, a beer chest, crates to hold the axes I got my groomsmen and my latest work is the crib for my daughter due this summer, based on Jon Heisz's crib design

Really like the color of the crib, nice slightly off white but goes well with what else in the room I can see. What's the beer chest look like? Congratulations on your daughter too :)

It is not my bench design, google Leopold bench. You can make this basically from one or two boards. It's a super simple design.

Very cool! I really like the finish on the wood for both, seems too light to be burned and too dark to be stained.

Thanks again. The chest is simply a couple stains and polyurethane. The crates I burned with a tiger torch and sealed with polymerized tung oil.

I went googling and didn't find a quality hit for "board shortening" that looks like what you posted. Can you explain?

You guys are all so awesome and adorable. I wish I had a hobby, but I haven't found anything I care about enough to actually keep it going long-term. I'll keep looking, though!

Best thing to do is to experiment! Try making a map of somewhere fictional, try jumping off a cliff with a cord attached. Anything!
