    Hajime no Ippo

A boxing anime and long, long running manga that is still going strong. Can be a bit tricky to watch legally, especially the whole thing start to finish. That said, if you like old school anime this one is a real treat.

I’ll also add Megalo Box to the list, though that one is more modern. Stretches the definition of “Sports Anime” a bit but I believe it still fits. In a semi-dystopian future people compete in boxing using “gear” which augment your abilities in the ring. The story revolves around the character “Gearless Joe” so you can likely guess the premise from there.

In terms of choice, it is difficult to come up with anything comparable, DLC or otherwise. It'd likely take something like Disco Elysium, which I haven't played to rival it. I ended up making 1 decision, then going back to redoing quite a bit of content to make another. I still wasn't 100% happy with how things went down, but that's the point. Sometimes there isn't a perfect answer.

I use both Google News and Artifact for aggregating news stories. I'm thinking about resubbing to the NYT so I can enable those stories to be read through both apps. It is cool that you can integrate your existing subscriptions through these programs and view their content in a more intuitive way. I enjoy a curated news experience and understand that there's no such thing as a free lunch. I understand people have privacy concerns and that these apps may not be for them. Live and let live, I suppose.

One notorious “That part” that I would agree with is the Fallout 4 - Far Harbor’s computer puzzles. It wasn’t a good sign when I saw mods allowing you to skip it entirely on The Nexus, and I can’t say as I would ever go through it again. That said, the DLC is otherwise amazing and I would advise anyone to push through should they encounter this part and want to quit.

As to OP’s entry, the good Pontiff put an end to my SL1 no summon run. I tried a good 20 times and just couldn’t get it done. It’s doable, but the guy is a monster.

The DLC expansion Far Harbor is one of the better stories I’ve experienced in the Fallout universe. If you ever decide to give the game another go I’d highly advise prioritizing making it to the Island. The amount of control your character has in influencing the storyline is what I wanted out of the rest of the game.

Diablo 4 - Though it has its flaws, the game’s story, voice acting, and core gameplay are worth the trade-offs. I finished the main campaign a bit under level 60 as a Hardcore Sorcerer. I’ll come back to it once more story expansions release.

Final Fantasy XVI - I’m addicted to this game. The story is exactly what I wanted from a fantasy series. Mature, dark themes set in a fantasy world which takes itself seriously. The boss battles are gigantic spectacles that truly feel like titanic clashes between godlike entities. The game has its weaknesses, but they’re easily overlooked if any of the above appeals to you.

In FF16 there will be characters throughout your home base that actively speak to you and each other about the events taking place in the game. Nearly the entire cast of 15-30 background characters are updated between missions to be saying and doing different things, with differing levels of detail and interactivity. This incentivizes me to run around and hear everyone's conversations to get a better sense of the world. It is a little thing, by no means mandatory, but it adds a lot to the world. Mass Effect did a great job with this as well.

I want at least SOME side quests to matter. Add/remove a structure in my base, add an NPC, change my outfit, etc. There needs to be some lasting effect so that anything other than the main content doesn't feel like an anime filler arc where nothing changes whether it happened or not. A good example of side quests done well is The Division 2. Doing side missions for communities alters their structures and NPCs to be more prosperous in specific ways. An audio log will play telling you how your acts have bettered people's lives and surroundings.

I've never tried to use RSS readers, but they sound useful. Would you mind summarizing how your app differs from something like Google News or Artifact?

    • Hourly and Daily Updates: NPR and BBC news bulletins are updated on an hourly basis. Podcasts updated at least once daily include WSJ Minute Briefing, Marketplace Morning Report, NYT The Daily, WP Post Reports and the Daily Tech News Show. To stream the podcasts mentioned as they're updated, I rely on an iOS app called Hourly News. There are likely better and/or non-paid versions of this app, but it works for me.

    • Longform Reading: I find aggregators like Google News and Artifact apps incredibly helpful for finding interesting articles from across the political spectrum.

    • Updates on Ukraine War: I listen to the 'Ukraine: The Latest' podcast and keep track of the r/worldnews daily sticky thread on Reddit.

    • Newsletters: I'm subbed to several AI-centric newsletters, such as Superhuman AI, Artisana AI and No Longer a Nincompoop. For broader news, I read Tangle and The Flip Side. It'd be neat if there was a Newsletter aggregator of some sort.

If I were to try to round myself out a bit more i'd get into local news, but I have a mental block and can't seem to find any of it interesting in the slightest.

Thanks again for the timely answer. I'm glad the function exists as i'd like to use it as it allows conversation threads to live on beyond a day or three of initial discussion.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but is there a way to search which would list comments made on any topic in chronological order regardless of how old the original post was made? Meaning, even if a post was one of the first on Tilde, if someone commented within it in the last few minutes, it would be displayed before a newly created post that hadn't had a comment in several hours.

I tried all of the sorting options and didn't seem to find one that performed this function. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I am completely in love with the game ATM. The graphics, music, boss battles and story are all excellent. I understand people's complaints about the combat, especially early on and in non-boss battles. However, I think you can start making the system work for you once you've unlocked a few more powers to switch through to personalize the fighting system.

The voice acting for me was a big surprise. Even the minor characters can shine and meaningful moments resonate within the tonally dark themes being explored. I happen to like the vulgarity, which is a weird thing to say, but it helps humanize the characters and add credibility to the incredibly shitty situations that arise. Same goes with the sexual elements and mature themes (slavery, class struggle, etc). All of the major story beats (about 20-25 hours) have landed and even minor villain's motivations seem plausible.

My main complaint so far stems from the PS5 itself. I really wish the game launched on PC at the same time, as the framerate downright chugs at times. Oddly enough, switching to the "graphics" setting seems to have evened things out enough for my brain to mostly ignore it. When this game comes to PC I may actually replay it just to enjoy the spectacle without compromise.

I also check the r/WorldNews subreddit's pinned post to see tweets linked there from prominent news sources. The comments section sorted by new can also yield timely but completely unvetted pieces of information.
