If I had any subscriptions, it would be a line item on my budget spreadsheet. Just don’t get into a feedback loop of a subscription service to keep track of subscriptions.

I work in cyber security. The amount of data a company can collect on your employee owned device is incredible. Screen on time, keystrokes, mouse movement (or lack of), frequency of use, etc.. Of course this can be useful for security...and measuring performance.

At least at my company, all of this data is ingested into Tableau. Our execs can see exactly who is working, for how long, and compare it to results they want to see. In my opinion, this shows weak leadership from my executives. Time does not equal work. If you can do your "9 to 5" job in 30 minutes, then that should be rewarded. Instead, it appears as laziness.

We have more layoffs coming soon, and it's almost entirely based off of bullshit metrics.

Yep. Money is not made through streaming, and it’s only slightly better in physical sales/digital downloads. Your best bet is merch, social media, radio/tv/movie licensing and live shows.

I was a touring musician for years, have a bachelors and masters degree in music, and know the recording industry well. I spend around several hundred a month on concerts, merch, and physical media. I even upload my own music directly to large private music trackers; I want my music to be pirated. Yes it’s illegal; but I do not think it’s immoral.

It’s probably a boring life for a lot of people, but I just smile when I invest 45% of my income.

I was a music teacher for 7 years, and that was anything but a job...it was a lifestyle. My entire life revolved around my career.

Now, I work remotely making 3x my teaching salary, and I get to "leave the office" at 3PM. It's just a job, and I like it.

Part of my job right now is training employees to do tasks a certain way. After a few months, we'll have enough data to automate their entire workflow using Machine Learning (ML) and AI. That's about 30% of our company wiped out in only a year.
