I feel bad about neglecting it, but I've been going through shit mental health.
Also, planning to research and apply for more tech jobs in cybersecurity or adjacent; I'm currently working a subsistence job, but the job market here in the US Midwest is so bad for recent new grads in tech like myself (though it isn't my first degree). I got LinkedIn Premium too in the hopes of reaching out to recruiters and upper management/C-suite folks of my target companies directly, but haven't sent out a single InMail.
Finally, I'm hoping to go on a long walk with a friend at this long trail west of the city on Sunday, so that should be fun. That kinda is my plan for the weekend.

It was a fun, carefree time and I want them back so bad.

Good, old times -- and grateful to Neil Buchanan for giving me so much joy as a kid.
The theme song still strikes those nostalgic childhood chords in me even to this day.

But yes, you're absolutely correct. X has become a place full of bots, low effort posters, spam, scammers (masquerading as Elon Musk himself) and straight up Big Tech AI hype propaganda. I never really used the original Twitter much before the acquisition, and I signed up for X to build a following for my tech content, but gosh that place is unbearable.

Comment on Google’s healthcare AI made up a body part — what happens when doctors don’t notice? in ~tech
axb Big Tech has poured hundreds of BILLIONS into training and inferencing hardware, so finding use cases for their bullshit "stochastic parrot" in regulated industries would be a good positive signal...I cannot for the life of me understand why an industry thats regularly 20 years behind in new software is willingly accepting this new age bullshit into a workflow that when you fuck it up people die.
Big Tech has poured hundreds of BILLIONS into training and inferencing hardware, so finding use cases for their bullshit "stochastic parrot" in regulated industries would be a good positive signal for their quarterly earnings. At least that's what my understanding is.
They're never going to make enough money from selling LLM subscriptions to people like you or me (or students/"programmers" who mostly use it without applying a single brain cell). So getting into "regulated" industries like healthcare, banking, finance (guess wall street already is mostly algo bots), defense and whatnot is their ultimate goal; thus they push to get doctors and surgeons to "pilot" their LLM for optics.

Comment on I've noticed an odd and possibly disturbing trend on Reddit lately in ~tech

reddit for me is DEAD. Even outside of "major" "front page" subreddits, the experience has degraded for me. The quality, effort, care people put into crafting successful reddit posts in the pre-2018 circa is not longer there, and censorship has gone off the charts. LLMs and bots LARPing as LLMs only made things worse post ChatGPT.
reddit is going through what I'd call "Quora-fication" -- the site is being overrun with bots with super low quality engagement bait to trap those dumb or unlucky enough to still be present on the site.

axb The invite-only method of getting new users on board is a stellar approach too. You can't "invite" bots. The forum-like aspect of Tildes drew me in, and the content and users and comments are good enough that it was easy to quit reddit for it instead.

I'm getting close to 5% on Fidelity's money market and the monthly dividends have been a source of slight comfort in hedging against this insane inflation.
As a bonus, I can also deploy my idling capital on a moment's notice if I happen to like a stock that I've done background research and analysis on.
Aside from this, I've also been making full use of my credit cards by maximizing cashbacks and rewards, and paying them off in full at the end of the month, of course.

Does Tildes need a new icon?
I was just thinking about it. Tildes' current icon looks like a /r/wallstreetbets graph, haha. I think we could use a nice mascot that's based on a cute animal of some sort. :) Would love to hear...
