    Used, refurbished ~2016 model Paperwhites sell for as low as $20. At that price I can't justify buying any other brand or model since all I'm looking for is decent resolution and a backlight.

They are translated from Chinese to English but the translation is excellent. The trilogy spans centuries and follows multiple characters through Earth's discovery of extraterrestrial life (and them discovering us) and the consequences that follow.
