Not quite a scientist, but have been in and around the healthcare space for 5 years. Now I run a company I founded focused on encouraging men to freeze their sperm!

I've always been surprised by Facebook's ability to keep adding users - maybe 5 years ago I (clearly, wrongly) predicted that Facebook's stock price would start sliding once they started losing younger users, who would eventually switch over to the latest social network.

But I think over time, there's been more value in smaller more targeted social circles (Facebook >> Instagram >> Snapchat) so there hasn't been a compelling reason to move away from Facebook since it's now more utilitarian than it is cool.

Good summary from Seeking Alpha here -

    1. Yet another report has been released saying that Facebook is losing its cool among young users.
    2. We've been hearing these reports since 2013, and FB stock has increased seven-fold in that time frame.
    3. Coolness doesn't matter for Facebook; Facebook is a multi-purpose internet utility that essentially everyone has.
    4. Instagram is cool, and whatever youth engagement Facebook is losing, they are getting it back through Instagram.
