    Media consumption as a whole.

I used to be an avid reader, always had music playing with some new hipster album, and kept up with the critical darling indie movies each year. In terms of TV shows I used to just mostly watch way too much anime until Game of Thrones, and then got more into 'normal' American shows with streaming becoming a bigger thing and quality getting better.

Lot of reasons. One is just fatigue. It's one thing to be young and have a "to read/watch/whatever" list to get to eventually. Part of getting old is understanding only so much time to do things, and it's something I don't really care to put that much time into anymore when other things have more long-term benefits. There's also just so much content now that it's hard to keep up with. And GoT burned me so bad I really don't care to follow anything that's currently being released (House of Cards was another one that got me really into TV shows and equally burned me on becoming terrible), and only interested in consuming things that are finished and proven to be good throughout.

Part of it as well is that there was this "importance" to them that isn't there anymore. It mattered to me what the best was, but then you realize 'the best' is more about fads and ones own personal opinion on what's the best really doesn't matter. I thought it mattered with things like relationships - and while shared interest do matter and has led to some nice past friendships, it doesn't need to specifically be shared media interests as there are a lot more important things to value especially romantically. I thought finding my favorite amongst it all meant something/my favorites said something about me, but in the end really it doesn't (especially with how much media isn't consumed). Only one thing really had any kind of actual tangible impact on my life - and it was at least a rather massive impact (the movie Mysterious Skin, which eg helped get me into therapy), but I can't say the same about any thing else media related.

And things have changed. For instance part of why I moved away from anime is I dislike digital animation compared to cel animation (though I very much understand the why), and anime as a whole has shifted away from things like Serial Experiment Lain or Wicked City (at least what has crossed my path). And I don't necessarily mean this negatively - eg I can't say the way music has evolved has interested me, but also hearing the same old thing redone is boring.

Not that I don't consume any media. But eg music now is just going to local shows that look interesting rather than trying to listen to "the best". Movies are mostly whatever my GF is up for watching, as I'd much rather eg watch the Resident Evil film series with her than whatever "the best" movie is alone.

Just hit me "gaming" would also fall under this umbrella of "media consumption." Which I know part of that too is just wanting to be more productive with my time.

It's also interesting getting old and thinking "I'm going to play games and watch anime forever!" when being younger. NOT that there's anything wrong with enjoying those things as someone older, after all time well spent is time spent well. I guess it was just for me that time no longer feeling well spent and would rather do other things in my life.

    Speaking of cultures within America:

"Midwest Nice" reminded me of the "Southern Hospitality" I grew up with, which was really just another flavor of "passive-aggressive asshole".

Living in Denver was what actually really shocked me, where people just don't give a fuck about each other. Like you don't really have people giving the head nod when passing, there's no small talk with cashiers or others waiting in line, no waving to people in the neighborhood when they drive by/you drive by. Definitely a lot more of a "lonelier" feel. Made me think of what I've heard of eg Scandinavian countries

But the people who were outwardly nice were more sincerely nice, and conversation with strangers that did happen felt more impactful than superficial. As a massive introvert and at-worst autistic-correlated, I really miss living in Denver lol.

Jags winning the division and getting awarded with facing the Bills in the first round, while Houston got to beat down on the Steelers, is all kinds of lame. But end of the day though gotta be able to beat who's in front of you. And will at least enjoy watching Houston get their ass whooped next week

Very excited for next year. Expect Coen to learn and continue growing as a coach.

I'm excited they're keeping McDaniels and fired the GM though. Achane is so underrated and such a good fit for McDaniels' system, they could get real good real fast.

Lol I'm a Jags fan, but I root for the Bucs as my NFC team and it's such a dumpster fire there now. I had brought up to my GF about this possible situation a couple weeks ago and she was like "uh huh sure". Now here we are. Like I'm kinda rooting for the "TB wins but so does ATL" just because of how hilarious it is.

Sad the state of the Bucs but glad we did poach Coen from them, they'd likely be so much better if he was still there as their OC. And hilarious that Coen got our GM fired in the process because our GM was so bad.

Yeah I didn't even bother with Oppenheimer and won't bother with this this.

Momento is one of my favorite movies of all time and The Prestige is also really good, and Inception and Interstellar are both solid - but they also start the downward trend IMO with so much bad exposition and montage scenes and bloat and such (and were what I'd call his first foray into blockbusters).

He's still talented enough that I'll at least hear about what he has coming out. Eg Aronofsky didn't have a good movie for over a decade, but still kept my tabs on him and really enjoyed The Whale. But this definitely isn't going to grip me into seeing it.

So you'd see it in dialog of a novel for a southern character, but actual southerners don't write like that because they know what word they're saying.

As someone who comes from a century+ long generational family in the south (and all the political fun that comes with that), it's funny to be told how it is we write apparently. Don't look at my families written historical items I guess. As well as the fact that dictionaries are used to prove how I'm wrong even though I started with the fact that it's dictionaries that are wrong. Dictionaries are not infallible.

But the cultural imperialist normally win out, as they get to write what the rules are

It is not a combination of "you" and "all" (which is what everybody thinks it is, and how you'd get ya'll).

It's a combination of "ya" and "all". Hence why it's pronounced at all. The apostrophe goes between the two words, like it always does - hence "ya'll"

Fucking yankee-ass dictionaries and autocorrects making everybody spell it wrong

Out of curiosity, since it says it has split screen co-op on the Steam page, is that something it's good for? While this was a thread simply for me, always looking for good split screen co-ops!

Oh man, didn't think of Rocket League while posting this but it's 1000% on point. It's crazy how "simple" the game is but like you said there's a nearly infinite skill ceiling - was amazing going from starting the game to building skill to Diamond level and still having so much to learn (which, frankly, didn't want to put in the practice to get that good - and that's okay I simply appreciated the fact that there simply was still more to learn)

Unfortunately, I mostly played duos with a friend of mine and it's been hard to play without them. The game really is on another level of fun when you're able to play with someone that you have a lot of experience with; ie he was the dribbler and passer, and I played defense or came in for the shot if I could see him setting something up. And just all the different ways we could play off each other from knowing what the other person was likely going to do.

I definitely might try some solo again now since it's been a few years though!

In terms of OSU, I had heard of it before but never looked into it...someone previously mentioned FPS in this thread and I think it's like them - something I would enjoy, but I don't play with a mouse/KB and it looks like it's something that would be severely hampered by playing with a controller. Do you think that's a fair assessment? The fact I wouldn't have the foundation of that with OSU, like I do with FPS games, does seem like it wouldn't be as frustrating of a transition at least

Ohh the beat-em-up aspect also makes me think of God Hand, which I quite enjoyed back on the PS2. If you know that old game, do you think they are comparable?
